*Bait and Switch! 10/23/2021
Went to see Stanley Kubrick's classic "The Shining", to experience the movie in a theater expecting to see the [as advertised], 144 minute 'US version' (2h 26m), and it became clear scenes were cut. and they were showing the hacked up 119 minute version. (Even TCM shows the full version)
This was especially disappointing because one of us in our group of 4 had never seen the movie before. The cuts completely throw off the mood and pace of the film, as it was originally intended. Very lame. Really lame.
If you paid to visit the Art Institute of Chicago and they had holes cut out of 1/5th of Georges Seurat's "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte", you would be justifiably disappointed.
If they had correctly advertised the version of the film they showed, I would have no reasonable grounds to complain. But they did not.
A very amateur mistake that unfortunately was both misleading and displeasing.
*Aesthetics
The cobwebs hanging from the ceiling casting shadowy images on the screen where distracting, pretty terrible.
The theater was cold.
3.The sound system is beyond terrible, noticeably inadequate. And if that wasn't bad enough, you can hear the sound from the movie playing on the screen in the next room! At some points, you can hear the sound from the other movie playing in the next room louder than the movie we were watching.
Overall the entire experience was awful, theaters run this poorly are the reason why people stay home. Theaters run this poorly give people reasons to stay home. The Moviehouse in Millerton gets an "F", a complete fail.
People who care about movies, care...
Read moreWow! I never thought I’d post a negative review re the Millerton Movie House. We’ve been fond patrons for many years. But after our experience last night I feel the need to share. After purchasing 5 tickets for a showing in the “upstairs” theatre, we were disappointed to discover that they are now calling the former lounge room a “theatre”. The room is outfitted with uncomfortable chairs and dusty couches. There is no pitch to the floor so viewing the screen can be difficult. Although a few notches above Sing-Sing’s movie night, it just didn’t seem right after paying the hefty cost of a today’s movie tickets. But what was really upsetting was when I approached the owner to ask if customers could be made aware of the less than pleasant venue in advance. Much to my disappointment, he became defensive and arrogantly said I could leave if we didn’t like it. He claimed it was clearly noted on the website - but it’s not. He likely didn’t know me and that I donated lots of dollars for his elevator fundraiser. But that’s ok, now I’ll feel just fine not helping him with any future...
Read moreI've been there quite a bit over the years. It's a nice place and for the most part they usually get the bigger movies throughout the year. I have a few reasons why I'm giving three stars, 1 the size of the place isn't really the problem as much as how it's set up. As you walk in the concession stand is like right there so your literally walking into a line as you come in. I feel that if they moved the stand with a bit of minor construction it would be much better. 2 the seats are very small. It's a small theater in a small town but as a bigger person it doesn't make for a comfortable sit for a two plus hour movie. 3 the bathrooms downstairs are right near the concession stand and the enterence so it comes back to the issue of the layout not being very well planned. Also there kind of expensive. As I said small place in a small town but still. I'd say it's worth it but you should definitely be ready to...
