My husband and I were heartbroken when a water leak severely damaged the intricately decorated top of our much-loved 18th-century Chinese-Export chest. Someone recommended that we contact Marco de Lellis to take a look at it. Thank goodness we did. The work he did on the chest was absolutely amazing!!! He used both excellent judgement and true artisanship (not "over-restoring," but doing just the amount necessary) to bring the piece back to its former glory. This was no small feat because many of the elaborate decorations were created in lacquer and gilt. He also kept us updated along the way, consulting with us when necessary to check how much we wanted him to do. We subsequently learned that Marco, having been born in Italy and remaining there for many years, had studied and practiced the fine art of restoration in a country known throughout the world for its art treasures and its dedication to the art of restoring them. As a result, he knows firsthand, and uses, materials and techniques that are appropriate to the time period a particular piece was made. And, as if all this weren't enough, the restoration of our chest was done in a timely fashion. His entire team, which includes his wife Olga, are great to deal with, always helpful and informative. So, yes indeed, we would recommend Marco and his team without reservation to restore an antique or custom build a new piece--basically to do just about anything!

I have three pieces of furniture from my grandparents' home that are well over a hundred years old. All were well worn and one was painted white. I found Marco's online and decided after an initial phone conversation that I would trust them with my "family heirlooms". Marco is the craftsman, and Olga, his wife, runs the business. I cannot tell you what a pleasure they were to work with. Olga came into Manhattan to pick up the pieces. Then when they were stripped, I went to Mineola to their shop (Olga picked me up and dropped me off at the train!) to pick out the stain colors and fabric for reupholstering my vanity bench. I recently got the pieces back (again delivered to my door in Manhattan) and they are stunning! Completely exceeded my expectations - and that is more of a rarity these days. I have attached one before and after picture below plus a picture of the restored vanity and reupholstered bench. Not sure the phots do them justice because the work and overall customer experience was superb. You will be very happy with Marco's work. A true old world craftsman.

I have known Marco and Olga for about 10 years and they have done wonders with my antique Biedermeier furniture (French polishing done properly by Marco and reuphostery by Olga). I am French and recently inherited a black Louis Philippe 1870 circa armchair which was in really bad condition when my grand-mother passed away.. Marco did a deep conditioning and French polishing and Olga reupholstered it using a burgundy brocade and yellow ribbon which I chose. Also of note: a circa 1900 bird's eye maple clover side table with three steamed curved legs in brown in bad condition which I found at a flea market in Maine. Marco totally restored it, designed a new wooden knob for the small drawer, and at my request changed the leg color to black to match my Biedermeier pieces and finished it off with a rigorous French polishing. Excellent work and all pieces look gorgeous. In addition, they are lovely to work with. A very professional team which I highly recommend! Real artisans who lovingly restore antiques and who know their craft are very rare anywhere.

Marco’s Art of Restoration is an incredible find! If you appreciate old world techniques in furniture refinishing look no further. I had an old bed frame that was severely damaged. Both the wood frame and the upholstery needed to be completely refinished. The bed frame was from a high end manufacture so I did not want to throw it away. I contacted Marco and Olga. They were professional and friendly right from the beginning. They came and picked up the piece, and gave me a quote that was very reasonable for the quality of work they perform. When they started the refinishing, they contacted me to come in and work with Marco to pick the stain color that I wanted. He took his time with me and had an excellent eye for details, mixing different stains until we got just the right color I was looking for. A short while later I was contacted that my bed frame was finished. They sent me pictures and set up the delivery. The bed came perfectly wrapped and was put into place. When they unwrapped the bed frame, I was in awe. The piece looked showroom new, and in mint condition. The stain was impeccable, with a gorgeous buffed satin finish. The upholstery was perfection, smooth and taught with bias welting that had corners that were turned precisely. Olga said, “I hope you don’t mind. I added a soft tufting to the piece because it looked too flat, but I can remove it if you don’t like it.” It looked amazing it was just the right touch to finish the bed frame that I had not thought of. While I was at Marco’s studio he showed me the pieces he was working on, an 18th century piano restoration, antique desk and chair that needed hand marquetry work replacement, and several new pieces of his own design. Made to measure for customers’ needs, his designs are modern and elegant and of course exquisite craftsmanship. If you’re thinking about having a piece restored, or you need a custom designed piece to fit your exact needs, reach out to Marco’s Art of Restoration. You will not be...
