I’m sure many brides would agree, one of the most exciting moments of my engagement period was finding “the” dress that I would wear on my wedding day. Off the rack from BHLDN, it was everything I wanted in a dress, but needed a few adjustments to make it just perfect for my wedding day. Enter Lina and her father Sebastiano at Montella Custom Tailor in Wading River NY. I was a bit at a loss on where to start on finding someone to alter a wedding dress (I needed a bustle added for my very long dress train and the straps taken in slightly). I live in NYC, but stored my dress with my mom in Wading River. I started off looking geographically close to her and quickly found Montella. I emailed, and Lina responded promptly to schedule a consultation. From the moment I met them, I knew I had found a hidden gem. They were attentive, kind, professional, and incredibly knowledgable and skilled with a great array of custom alterations. Sebastiano was a man of few words, but a long time professional, he only needed to briefly look at my dress and he could size up exactly what needed to be done and the best way to do it (and he got it all exactly right!). Lina and her father were incredibly helpful in helping me determine the best options for me and made me feel confident entrusting them with holding onto and altering my dress. Aside from the skilled work they did, I recommend them because they never made me feel rushed, they were incredibly communicative and attentive to scheduling fittings, and it was special to me to be able to support a family business. My entrance into this majestic time capsule tucked away in the East Wind commons is unavoidably transformational in feeling such a strong connection to being in Italy where the Art of Bespoke Tailoring truly originated from as one is instantly mesmerized by the strategically nostalgic organization of all the Master Tailored personalized fashions, displayed in all their style and grace. The walls feature tribute after tribute to Sebastiano's accomplishments and recognition in the industry of Bespoke Tailoring. One must also recognize that Montella's reputation and ongoing tailoring excellence wouldn't be possible without the loving support by his son and daughters unique talents of their own of their own having learned and applied Bespoke skills from the Master Craftsman. I routinely bring them what appears to be an impossible task in taking an off the shelf garment and completely reworking it to custom fit my challenging dimensions as if it was made from a measured drawing. Anyone looking to make the impossible, possible in a garments fit, form and function can rest assure that the Craftsman at Montella's are readily up to the task. I am so incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to get not one but two (one for ceremony one for reception) wedding dresses tailored here. From the moment I walked in, I felt like I was at home. Sebastiano is a master of his craft. His daughter, Lina is the sweetest most wonderful person and took all of my requests and worked with her father to make me feel like a stunning bride in these dresses. Even after the first fitting the dresses were already completely perfect- Sebastiano went the extra mile to make extra changes to my dresses to make them more functional and to fit like a glove by the final fitting. The dresses I had were not easy to tailor and I so appreciate that he re-created them so seamlessly that you would think they were made from the very beginning for me and me alone. Their attention to detail, devotion to keeping Italian tradition alive, and their wonderful welcoming atmosphere to me and my mother is unmatched. The work they do there is worth every dollar.
