edit: it’s been 5 months since my initial experience and unfortunately been a horrible experience. i told them my ears are very sensitive and i require a certain type of earring in order for them to not be infected and they assured me it would be fine. it was in fact, not fine. it’s taken these 5 months to heal with daily cleanings, and soakings. i’ve been sleeping on my back because my ears are swollen and painful if i put pressure on them like resting on my side. i’ve tried to trust the process.

last week i finally had enough of the uncomfortability and took my earrings out. in the morning, i switched the earrings out not for any reason other than i just wanted to wear something else and to my surprise, my ears are starting to heal… that tells me the earrings have been the problem this whole time.

i’ve been just dealing with oozing, infected, hard and lumpy ears for 5 months (i am not exaggerating) because of their dishonesty or maybe just lack of education on what they’re using. upon closer inspection, the piercings are uneven and are placed in positions where i’m limited on what i can wear.

they were kind, but when it comes to piercings, they should not offer a service they’re not comfortable performing...

I must share about my recent experience at Gray's Jewelers in St. James, NY. I took my 11 year-old daughter to get her ear's pierced. This is her third time needing the procedure! After her holes closed up twice due to infections, I was skeptical as to where I should go for a good experience. In the past, we have used the kiosk and Claire's at the local mall. Everyone should know that Donnalee is such a warm and outgoing, friendly person. She informed us about how to pierce ears correctly, made us feel at ease and so welcome. Having this experience made me realize the power of positive personal interactions and their effect in creating a good experience. The shop is a clean and beautifully organized space with displays that make you want to look up close at everything that sparkles! Donna Lee (the owner) and Maureen were absolutely amazing when it came to piercing my daughter’s ears. My daughter was very scared—it took us three separate visits to get both ears pierced—and they were nothing short of incredible throughout the entire process. Kind, patient, and so understanding.

Even while my daughter screamed and cried out of fear, they remained calm and compassionate. Donna Lee even took her outside to sit on a bench and talk things through, helping to ease her nerves. They offered her water, comforted both of us, and kept reassuring me that everything would be okay.

I honestly can’t thank them enough for how kind and patient they were. They made what could’ve been a really traumatic experience into something safe and supportive. Truly...
