My wife and I recently ate at Mosaic in St. James after some recommendations from friends. I was a little bit hesitant because they really don’t operate in the way that traditional restaurants do, with menus. Instead, when you make your reservation, they get a sense of the kinds of things you like to eat and the things you may want to avoid, based on your tastes, allergies or just aversions to certain types of food. They use this knowledge to curate a 5 course meal for you. The reason this made me nervous was because I am the kind of person who always orders the same thing at restaurants, usually the steak. In other words I’m not really a risk taker when it comes to food, so it seemed to me that trusting my selection of food to people who are not me would be inherently risky. I’m happy to say that my fears were unfounded. This was the first time in my life when I felt like I wasn’t just having dinner, I was taking part in a tasting experience. First of all, all of the servers are themselves cooks, and therefore they are not only knowledgeable, but also noticeably passionate about what they serve you. Anthony Mazza, our server, took the time to explain the origins of each course as well as the logic of the flavor pairings. What we ended up with was not merely service but an education. Although I consider myself to be a competent home cook, this opened up a whole new world to me. Needless to say, each course was beyond delicious and I even said to my wife out loud that I’m so glad we didn’t go someplace where I could just order the steak. The other thing I was nervous about was the portion size. I am a big guy and eat a lot. I was afraid that the trope of the fancy restaurant that would intentionally serve undersized portions in an attempt to adhere to some idea of being gourmet would prove correct. Thankfully, nothing could be further from the truth. I was very full by the time we were done with dessert and my wife actually couldn’t quite finish hers, which is definitely a first! The next time I go I will do the wine pairing; I was regretting not doing it as I saw other tables around us enjoying that experience. Although definitely not a cheap night out, eating at Mosaic offers you an elevated experience that sets itself apart from the hundreds of restaurants we’ve eaten at that are merely good or even great. You get something fuller and richer, something in a category of its own, something you simply...

I never write reviews, but this was an extraordinary bad experience and thought important for folks to be aware. Had a reservation for a 50th birthday, which was made 6 weeks in advance and confirmed twice before arrival. Arrived for dinner with family and they had “mistakenly” cancelled the reservation. We played them voicemails and showed them text with reservation confirmations (also we live over an hour away from this restaurant, so clearly we did not cancel and just show up for fun). They had no solutions, were deers in headlights and left us out to dry on a Saturday evening in 20 degree weather. They were unprofessional, uncaring and ruined a 50th birthday. We were so excited to celebrate the special occasion at eatMOSAIC, and it was an absolute disaster.

To respond to your out right LIES below eatMOSAIC - you confirmed that you had CANCELLED our reservation by accident. Happy to provide you the voicemail confirmation and text transcript again. We would have NEVER booked 1/27 because that’s not their birthday! Their birthday was 1/20 and that’s why we booked that date. Another lie you just told. You offered us NO table in the main dinning room, we even asked to sit at bar again that was a NO. Yes we showed up with 3 people because as we told you 1 person had Covid, but of course you just failed to mention that below in your untruth, accusations and lies. To be clear, you would prefer someone with Covid to show up and infect your entire restaurant and staff? Wow you’re truly disgusting!

Also, you did NOT offer to call another restaurant. RATHER I proactively asked you to call another recommend restaurant, since we did not know the area which I had reiterated to you several times (came from a hour away). As you were doing this I was on Google Maps attempting to find any other option. To be clear, you called ONE restaurant that was booked and offered ZERO help after that happened.

Your comment below on 7:30pm reservation, that is the only half truth. YES, we did initially inquire about a 7:30pm reservation in early December for 1/20 birthday dinner. When you called me back you informed us that you only do 2 seatings -6pm or 8pm. We graciously accepted your seating times. Again, the lies below show your true character and your...

My husband and I went to eatMOSAIC yesterday for our anniversary dinner. Jonathan, the owner, really knocked it out of the park this time. With COVID raging, it's been hard to get out of the house. Jonathan really made it worth our while. I'm fairly certain the meal it was the best meal we've had.

Our meal was five courses, with fresh bread and olive oil with herbs in it, followed by a tuna crudo with fruits, a squash stew with clams, rosemary venison with figs, wagyu steak with summer lasagna, and tiramisu with lemon ice cream (unexpected but divine!). The service was fantastic throughout. When one course took too long to come out, the servers comped a round of drinks for us. Jonathan, the owner, came around several times to check in on us and make sure everything was to our liking. Who does that?! When he realized it was our anniversary, he brought out an extra small plate of dessert with a candle for us--just to make us feel extra special. After the meal, Jonathan spent a while chatting with us, and just was the nicest guy, taking a genuine interest in us and our story. He went out of his way to get to know us. He even sent us home with an anniversary gift to help close out the night and really make it special. It really felt like we were eating dinner at a close friend's house, with a friend we've known forever hosting us. My husband and I were floored.

eatMOSAIC is a true gem. I'm from the city and it is hard to find anything like what Jonathan is doing outside of NYC. eatMOSAIC gives me a little slice of home. The service and food is stellar, the wait staff and owner are so, so nice, and the meal is always one to remember. This was not our first time here, but the experience was so phenomenal, I had to go out of my way to leave a review.

eatMOSAIC, thank you so much for your generous hospitality and fantastic food. We'll...
