Dennis the owner presented very well over the phone when I called inquiring about an issue with my vacuum. His spiel included insuring me he would look the vaccum over and let me know what was needed PRIOR TO performing any services. Dennis stated it was "free of charge" to diagnose the issue, and went on and on about how other companies charge a fee and claim to waive the fee if you repair with them etc etc but henis different. Upon going to the shop and meeting Dennis, he told me he believed based on my complaint that the vacuum needed a new part that would cost me $90. However, before I made a decision, he would give the vaccum a thorough check (free of charge) and give me call within a day or two with three options: 1. His cost to simply clean it 2. Eligibility for repair through warranty 3. Cost to repair from him
Dennis called me back not 2 days later but 5 days later. He asked to speak to me and when I said it was me he informed me that my vaccum just needed a cleaning, and I could come pick it up for $90. When I asked him why he moved forward with performing any services after telling me he would provide me with options first, he started to get very nasty and rude. Told me that he could redirty my vacuum and give it back or I could pay him his $90.
Dennis refused to provide me with an explanation as to how he initially said it would cost $90 to replace a part, and how the cleaning is also costing $90. When I pressed further for answers he then accused me of looking for free service and hung up the phone.
BEWARE OF DENNIS AT MAHOPAC VACUUM. He presents as if he wants to do right by you as a customer, when in all reality he is ripping people off.
Update after reading response from owner: YOU ARE LYING DENNIS! You told me its was FREE to have you look over my vacuum. You told me the $90 was what you thought it would cost for me to BUY A NEW MOTOR. I NEVER agreed to you replacing the motor nor did I ask for you to clean the vacuum. My understanding when I left your shop was that you would be LOOKING IT OVER, FOR FREE, and getting back to me to discuss what I wanted to do once you diagnosed the problem. I NEVER consented to you performing ANY SERVICE other than diagnosing the issue. I have no reason to lie, or try to get out of paying for my vacuum. YOU'RE THE LIAR AND CON MAN TRYING TO SWINDLE ME! I was expecting a simple reply for the cost but instead I received a reply to either come in or call to see if the problem could be fixed without the costly replacement.
