I took my wedding dress to The Magic Needle by Yvonne to be altered on June 14th. I was quoted $550 for it to be shortened, taken in, and bustled. I thought the quote was a bit high, but to be honest, I didn’t feel like transporting it somewhere else and going through the whole process again, so I figured I’d deal with the pricing.
More than one month after dropping off my dress, I hadn’t heard anything back about it. I called and the woman who answered the phone said, “oh, yeah. It’s ready for you to come in and try it on.” Yet, nobody had called me to tell me that.
I made an appointment and went to try it on. It was a little bit tight where she had brought it up (when shortening it,) so she said she would have to let it out an inch or two in the thigh area. She then told me she would charge me an additional $120 to do that. I was flabbergasted that she would charge me more than she had originally quoted me. I made another appointment and left in tears.
I ended up having to work late and missed the following appointment. I called to apologize about missing my appointment (and to book the appointment again) and Yvonne got nasty with me. She then told me she was going out of town that exact evening and not returning until my wedding day. She said, and I quote, “It’s not my fault you missed your appointment, you would’ve known I’d be closed had you not missed it.” She then hung up on me. She called back two minutes later to “remind me” that payment was due in cash at the appointment and promptly hung up again.
I took full responsibility for my missing the appointment, but her attitude was hurtful, unprofessional, and absolutely uncalled for. I had to go in that evening after work to try on the dress, knowing that even if something was wrong with it, there would be no fixing it as she was leaving town that night. When I tried on my dress, I realized she had let it out a few too many inches. I paid her my remaining balance and now I’ll have to wear a dress that I’m not 100% happy with on my wedding day this upcoming Friday.
Of course, I knew having my wedding dress altered would not be cheap, but Yvonne’s prices are outrageous. She is unprofessional and I am very sad that my dress is not right. I will never take my business...
Read moreDishonesty, lack of skill and most importantly lack of caring can be the pitfall of any business. Unfortunately that was my experience with The Magic Needle. I went there to have a vest made for my wedding. I went in with the fabric and buttons needed to have my vest crafted. I had the suit pants with me for fitting. When I went in I was told I didn't need my suit pants and that my jeans would be fine. That seemed a little funny to me and was probably a product of her trying to usher me in and out without properly attending to the needs of the situation. My measurements were taken and I was quoted for $85. The buttons I had purchased weren't up to her liking so she said she'd get me better buttons and that she'd have to charge me for them. I said okay no problem. I was amazed to find when I arrived that the buttons were and additional $25 dollars. I tried on my vest and noticed that it did not cover my shirt in full, it was too short. I made note of that, paid for my "$25 higher than quote vest" and went home. Several weeks later I tried on the vest with my suit and found the same issue, the vest was too short. It should be noted that upon initial fitting, she tried to tell me that short vests were the way they were worn, which is completely false. It had been weeks since I paid for my vest and tried it on, when I called back, she immediately got defensive and aggressive, yelling at me why did I wait weeks, as if my vest had some sort of expiration date on it. She tried placing full blame on me, when I was calling just to see what could be done. After her harassing me for a full two minutes, she said I would have to pay to have it altered, yes I would have to pay to have their mistakes fixed. I told her I did not want to deal with her any more. Very unfortunate occurrence, most startling was the fact that she didn't care about getting it right. Needless to say, I would not recommend the Magic...
Read moreI dropped my daughters winter jacket off on 11/13/18 to get the zipper fixed! She told me it would be ready for pick up In 2 weeks and they would call me! Fast forward to 12/11/18 and still no phone call! I politely called to check on the status and was told they were waiting for a part and it would be done in a few days and that they would call me when it’s ready! Fair enough, but a phone call from an employee would have been considerate! Fast forward AGAIN to today JANUARY 3, 2018.... STILL no phone call! I personally went to the store to pick up my jacket instead of continuing to wait for VERY BAD business etiquette! To my surprise the jacket was done and just sitting on their rack—-no phone call! I have never done business with a more unapologetic small business in my life! I only received $6 off my bill that is already over priced! The work was OK, nothing to get excited about. They also repeatedly made false accusations about their “communication attempts”. Her closing comment was “i do business all over the world” WELL lady congratulations and THANK you for letting me know I was VERY low on your priority list! She should be real proud of herself! I WOULD NEVER RECOMMENDED this place to anyone that wants to be treated with...
