Seven Stars for Nelson Coleman Jewelers
Nelson Coleman Jewelers is a seven-star business. Where do I begin? This family business cares immensely for their customers and takes the time to understand their customer’s needs. When I was a new customer Mark Coleman guided me through a jewelry box consultation. With his thorough knowledge of jewelry, he explained what pieces I had that were valuable but dated or broken and purchased them from me. Mark also educated me about the other pieces so I could donate them to my favorite charity’s auction.
Peggy Coleman’s knowledge of diamonds made my husband and I very comfortable when we were in the store to purchase a replacement engagement ring and wedding band. Peggy also helped me pick a Hearts on Fire necklace that is phenomenal for its stunning sparkling beauty, as well as a pair of HOF diamond stud earrings. Who can resist their exceptional estate jewelry selection? Over the years, Mark, Peggy, and Amanda make me feel special each time I purchase a piece of new or estate jewelry. They recommend pieces that are suitable for me and within my budget.
Amanda’s vision for the future of the business is amazing. She and her team stay current with the jewelry offerings on their website which makes it easy to purchase items online. Also, the photography on their website is quite spectacular. Nelson Coleman’s commitment to charity is also wonderful; when my husband and I purchase a new piece of jewelry we appreciate their 10% contribution to our favorite charity for children with special needs.
Having used their services for repairs, cleaning, and a spa treatment, I suggest that you avail yourself to them and visit any of their locations. We moved out-of-state, and occasionally purchase their jewelry online, however it is worth the six-hour drive to see all the Colemans and their fabulous staff to purchase jewelry in person. You will never be disappointed at Nelson Coleman Jewelers. Finally, when we are in the Central Maryland area, we are looking forward to visiting their new store in...
Read moreI am not impressed with the customer service over the phone I received today. I dropped off a wedding ring 2 weeks ago, to be repaired, paid a deposit and was told the jeweler would give me a call with any updates to the pricing or what repairs needed to be done, with an expected completion date of Dec. 6th. I called today, Dec. 1st, to inquire about the process because I never received a call back, that I had already been waiting two weeks for. Upon answering, the person seemed immediately defensive, saying the jeweler is out for 3 weeks, and they couldn't even give me an update until Dec. 6th. It would've been nice to know about the jeweler not even being able to look at my ring until Dec. 6th, instead of taking my money and leaving me with an empty promise of it being done by the 6th.
I'm very upset, and I'm giving the benefit of the doubt until the 6th, but I'm not impressed. I've already been waiting over a year to find someone who could work on my ring, not being able to wear anything until then.
EDIT 7DEC: After calling this morning for an update, I was told I'd get a call back in "just a second" after they talked with the repair person. 2 hours later, they finally call back and say the repair price will be more than double what the estimate was. Oh, and they said the repair person was "out sick" for 2 weeks this time, instead of 3 weeks when I called over a week ago, and again, there was no mention of the repair person being unavailable until the 6th when I dropped the ring off November 15th. Sounds like they just let my ring sit for 3 weeks then when the pressure was put on, rushed to do an inspection and estimate after I called. What a shoddy business and I'm ashamed for them, to be a sixth-generation "family business". I guess we're not the customers they want back in their store.
Don't give customers expectations you have no intention of following...
Read moreI have lived down the street for 24 years since we moved to Towson in 2000. I went in for the first time about a year ago with a gold necklace I was just trying to find the value on. My father had passed in 2020 and I was just looking to make sure it was real which I was 99% sure about and the value. After asking to speak with someone about potentially selling a gold necklace the lady immediately said, “that must be gold plated” before she even touched or examined it closer. After she looked at it and as I already knew there were no markings at all. I told her I was certain it was real and that I was pretty sure it was 24k and she looked at me like I had 2 heads and said it’s 24k gold plated. She said a scratch test would mess it up and so I told her if it’s fake I don’t care if it’s messed up. She still didn’t want to do a scratch test since she KNEW it was gold plated and not solid gold.
I just took it to a pawn shop and they immediately said, “oh this thing is real.” That was before they did any test on it. They knew right away by the clasp and just looking at it and holding it. It has no markings since it is from the late 50-60’s and from the Middle East. They put it in some machine which told them it was 24k and was REAL. They said the machine is 99.9% accurate and so they did a scratch test and it was 100% real. Not only is it 24k it’s 120g.
Next time your jewelry store (employees) shouldn’t just assume because of the look of someone and their jewelry that they MUST have fake stuff. You never know how someone attained something… just because they’re young, in sweat pants and have long hair doesn't mean a thing…. Gold is gold. It’s just as valuable from me as it would be from ANYONE else! Plus I’m in the market for a ring it would have been nice to go...
