Akira Ramen and Sushi – A Mixed Experience

Finding parking near Akira Ramen and Sushi in Towson is a bit of a hassle, as most spots around the area require payment. That was the first drawback, but I was in town on business and looking for a healthier meal option, so I decided to give this place a try for takeout.

For an appetizer, I ordered the takoyaki (octopus balls), and I was pleasantly surprised. They were well-made, flavorful, and had a nice texture—definitely a highlight of the meal.

For the main course, I went with their Akira Ramen, which includes [Curly noodle, tonkotsu salt flavor with chashu (pork), beansprout, egg, fishcake, corn, scallion, bamboo shoot, wood ear, and nori. Pork broth]. Unfortunately, the pork was a big letdown. It was tough and chewy, as if it had been overcooked or not properly prepared. The broth itself also lacked the depth of flavor I was hoping for, making the overall ramen experience underwhelming.

On the positive side, service was good, and my takeout order was prepared quickly. However, the food itself didn’t impress me enough to make a return visit worthwhile. Given the parking issues, the average flavors, and the disappointing pork, I’d rate Akira Ramen a 3 out of 5 stars.

Would I go back? Probably not. But if you’re in the area and really craving ramen, it might be worth a shot—just don’t set your...

Ok so ramen! It’s amazing but hard to find. The closest place with decent ramen is in Belvedere Square but now I don’t have to trek there anymore because AKIRA is here and it’s awesome! Everything from the detailed plates to the koi fish lamps and Japanese style roof on the sushi bar just makes the atmosphere truly amazing.

Growing up in Hawaii there has been some stuff I have missed here in the mainland and boy does this place deliver! Hot and creamy takoyaki, crunchy karage and soft tender nigiri. The staff is efficient and will seat you with water automatically.

The ramen is flavorful and customizable as you can do add in’s! Everything that is fried (like karage and shrimp tempura) is super crunchy with a light flavor and isn’t oily at all!

I do wish there were some more sauce/seasoning options such as fish, oyster, furrikake, garlic and something super spicy like chili paste! Right now they just have soy sauce and a chili powder as sauce/seasonings.

Parking is a little annoying but it’s on the Towson strip so parking there is annoying no matter what. Also I know they are having staffing/technical menu issues so please be patient as they are new and the food is worth any trouble! But overall I love this place and will definitely keep coming back with...

Came here with The Missus (bless 'er) recently, after having dined at the Rockville and Columbia locations. I must say that in quality of service, product and ambience, this location was easily the least of the three. We both had a strawberry milk boba- which took, frankly, way too long to come to the table. Had the restaurant been busy (we were one of four active tables), I could understand the wait, but over ten minutes was not a good sign - especially when our first course came before the drinks. To be fair, the first course was the jalapeno and yellowtail sashimi with ponzu sauce. The Missus (bless 'er) ordered it, it came we ate it. To follow, I had the smoked eel rice bowl and The Missus had...I don't know some roll that just wasn't very memorable. Our server was in a rush (for some unknown reason), asking us if we were ready to order about 2 minutes after we sat down. I am not exaggerating. So we just ordered the yellowtail to buy ourselves some time with the menu. Basically, we came because of the other locations, which is where we will return to because this location really didn't do it for us. I'm sure they have their off days like everyone else, so we will be back. If things are different, I will amend...
