I had a month to month membership with them when they were Peak Performance last year. I had paid for the next month literally 3 days before the State of CA shut down for COVID. Understandable that they shut down but what is unacceptable is that they immediately turned their phones to voicemail and never returned calls or emails about a refund or credit. I just got back in town and tried to see if they would take care of it for me in person. I was informed that the two companies (Peak Performance and now Camp 1) are unaffiliated and that there was nothing they would do to reconcile. Unaffiliated?! The owner group is literally the same family! Regardless of their poor customer service and shady dealings, High Altitude (another local gym in Truckee) is just as new with a MUCH larger facility, all of the same quality equipment just more of it. They have a massive climbing room and also have a separate huge bouldering area. They also give you access to 2 locations, the other is in Incline Village. Best of all High Altitude cost me $65 a month. Peak 1 will run you a laughable $130 for less amenities and is in a non-central part of town.
You seem to think the financial burden of owning a business during a pandemic should be absorbed by your clientele. This isn’t Russia. This is a free market where you are afforded the amazing opportunity to make a profit from the goods and services you provide ($130 a month should see you handsomely rewarded for your efforts). I paid you my money to enjoy your services that you didn’t provide. In fact, I wasn’t asking you for a refund. I asked to be credited for 1 month when you were able to reopen. That seems like a reasonable request.
You’re not being “trolled”. Internet reviews are the consumers only way to keep businesses honest. You might want to look up the definition...
Read moreWeird experience, weird vibes, most of the members are paying a different rate than the public rate as well which doesn’t fit with my “financial community wellbeing opinions” aka y’all should be equally investing in your community facility. Making new members pay more than current members isn’t the most equitable decision for a facility but that’s on them.
Cleanliness rating: 3/10 Seems clean, but I used the disinfectant provided and broke out with a rash that I had to go to a doctor to get medicine to treat. They told me I “burned” my skin but also must have used something pretty harsh to get that much of a miliary dermitis breakout too.
Class Setup rating: 5/10 A little too much weirdness. I didn’t feel comfortable to work out the ways I have at other facilities that are class focused. I did however enjoy the instructors energy and program. The equipment worked. I came to a morning class and then the next few days was questioned as to “why I wasn’t there”. Maybe I just have too much going on?? It’s like they wanted me to tell them they were good and then when I didn’t come they took offense to that.
I really can’t tell if this gym is designed as a multi use facility. They have a nice squat rack but only 1 mirror. So basically if it’s busy I would expect there to be a line.
I did not however try out any of the personal training program offerings. I’ve heard really good things about that product and would have enjoyed trying it had the other aspects to the gym worked out.
I bet the summer crowd is different too. The gym was very different experience based simply on time...
Read moreThe gym is actually good but I have a problem. The gym guy said if you want to cancel your membership, please send us an email before the 14th, which is your membership expiration date. My membership end date is the 13th of this month. That means I paid on the evening of the 13th and i came on the 14th. The gym guy also told me if you want to cancel before the 14th, please send me an email. So I sent an email on the evening of the 12th during business hours, but they charged us on the 13th. Why did you go to Compliant? My 2 friends who came with me and they want to cancel on the afternoon of the 13th, but they didn't charge them.I think this is unfair to me. I want to meet with...
