Definitely a cultural store, meaning they target a specific culture and market to them. Fine by me. It means I get to see and buy more of the stuff I had when I was growing up. Makes me feel close to home, even if that's long gone by now. If you're coming here to find things you might find in a Safeway or a Basha's or an Albertsons or Fry's just turn around and go to one of those because Food City might or might not have what you're looking for.
Take soda and frozen meals, for example. They have a ton of the Fiesta brand soda. Less of the name brand. But on top of that, the 12 packs are 2/$10 (on sale) for the name brand stuff. It's clear they have better success with the Fiesta brand due to the amount of space they allot on the shelves for it. To be fair, I've been trying the Fiesta brand and love it and it costs 40-60% of the name brand stuff depending on sales so it's my go-to brand for soda now. Frozen meals, well, they have a lot of burritos and Michelina's - and I mean a lot. It's kind of nice to see the variety of brands and flavors but, I have to stick to healthier stuff and it is SO limited. I had to pick up a Marie Callendar's because nothing else healthy was there and they only had the turkey one. It's fine though because it got me to start cooking more healthy stuff but again, just limited. Chips are basically stocked the same way as sodas but they obviously favor those based on price, and hotter blends. Not a big chip eater but this is another example.
What this store succeeds at is meat, produce, and cultural foods. Always good deals and good arrangements of food (large taco kits or other types for extraordinarily good prices). I can get bags and bags of my favorite candy here, and that alone is a cost savings compared to occasionally buying a few here and there from Circle K or AMPM. Dessert is always very, very good. No complaints, ever.
I go here all the time now. I go to Walmart for other things that I can't find here and...
Read moreI really liked my visit to Food City yesterday because the layout made finding things easy, and all the staff I encountered were helpful, and the customer service was just great. I needed to select economical items needed to prep, as well as to pick up all the makings for my homemade tamales.
I really loved the $16 beautiful pork should butt. The 2 options for prepared masa in a more convenient 5 lb pack were perfect for my needs. I found everything i needed very quickly. I loved their wonderful and very intense selection of authentic Mexican fresh and dry chili's, prepared sauces, and herbs and conveniently placed together, making access easy. I was immediately inspired, just thinking about all the future meals I would make for my man whose favorite food is Mexican. I may have gone a little - no a lot overboard with must haves I dreamt of using later! No regrets here. I can't emphasize enough about how great the prices were at Food City vs. all the other very expensive block chain markets, often with limited selections. Some of my best finds I encountered, some of them for the first time and all of them with excellent prices were Adobe con sazon, Pollo Asado, Goya Recaito Culantro cooking base, a large Maggi Caldo boullion, and Chipotle peppers in Adobe sauce. As you can see, I highly recommend Food City for their great selection and even better prices. I am long-winded and a very appreciative and grateful...
Read moreFood city stores are well stocked I will give them that much. Now I'm just speaking honestly here. Their stores are poorly maintained, and all the equipment is old and outdated resulting in slow moving lines. Plus they are always understaffed making long lines as well. The cashier's are always working in high gear as a result of too few cashier's so they are all edgy, cranky, tired, overworked and angry about it and it shows believe that. Their stores are usually dirty items carry a coating of dust across the tops of everything. Good luck finding an employee to help you find anything Food City prices are higher on most things than other places. The best thing they have going for them is their large selection of authentic mexican foods. Overall I do not recommend Food City for your everyday food shopping . However if your planning a full on mexican meal then I do highly recommend Food...
