I have been going to Half Priced Books for years. But never again. To start, I brought 5 large bookshelves worth of books to trade in and even though the books were in mostly like new condition, They totally filled the back of my mini van and one side. I only got $28. This is the second time I have gone this and got pretty much nothing. Last time I bought in about 6 large shopping bags of books and got $3. This included a Pimsleur Spanish set, books and CDs, that I paid over $250 for alone and they said that they couldn't sell it because it is outdated because it is on CD. And guess what I saw on the shelves while I was there! My Pimsleur Spanish set that they got for free. I could sell the books on Facebook Marketplace and get a lot more for them.
Then I found a DnD boxed set for my son. I bought it and it cost me over $90 after taxes. The box was torn up but the books were OK. A few pages dogeared. When I got home I discovered that I could have bought it on Amazon NEW for less than I paid there. This is also not the first time I have discovered that I could have gotten a book in just as good condition or even new for cheaper on Amazon. Half Priced Books indeed! I will never go...
Read moreI had 7 boxes of books to sell. I called first to make sure no appointment was necessary. Girl on the phone said just bring them in. Sign on the door said they would help me bring them in, not so. I had to carry all 7 boxes in myself. Two trips with my own hand truck. Had to wait for Joseph Morra to finally acknowledge my presence to tell me where to set the boxes down. Then he asked for my drivers license. I asked why and he said because he would be paying me cash for books. Really? Reluctantly I complied. Then he asked for my cell number. I gave it to him. Then he said he had two ahead of me and it would be about an hour to process that many books. I said okay, just call me. He said oh no, you have to remain in the store. I asked why, and he said this is just the way they do it. I told him I had to be at work and can't hang around the store. No comment from Joseph. I said when I called in no one told me there were so many rules to selling books. He said they didn't say you would have to remain in the store? I said no. Nothing from Joseph. I said I'll just have to take my books back then. No apology, no help loading them up, nothing. Half Price Books is now on my never go...
Read moreThis place rocks my shelves so hard I'm gonna have an allergic dust reaction. Just kidding, although this place has the deep shelves full of bestsellers (yesterday and today) classics and hidden gems. Their buyers sort through stacks and stacks of miserable manuscripts culling the dross and reselling only the finest in possible selections. Oh yeah they buy books too, and even if they aren't "worthy" or in a "decent state of repair" for their shelves these leftover but still readable and useful books go to inmate programs and outside sellers(not big box style, well sort of, look it up on their site it is wicked cool). I am in no way affiliated with this store or company. I don't know anyone that works here, owns stock in, or would profit from this review other than you dear reader. Come get you some books, always at least half off marked publishers book price. The people are helpful, the store is clean, it has a great kids and young adult section as well as history, religion, Christianity, hobbies, science, fiction, science fiction. Ha. Its got...
