I only gave Menards 2 stars because of a recent experience. My family and I have shopped at Menards for years and spent a good portion of money there. My daughter and her husband gutted a home and Menards has been their #1 spot to purchase building supplies. They frequent Menards 2-3 times a week.
However,
Thursday night we went downstate to pick up some things they had bought on market place. My son in law got out of work and picked us up, we met at Menards parking lot. His wife, driving her car, me driving my car which we left under the mercury light ( which we always heard is the safest thing to do as women.) We parked on the outskirts of the parking lot.
The loading of the items downstate took longer than anticipated. We returned by 1 am only to find our vehicles had been impounded. Note, I live in a different city and needed to drive home but couldn't. We called the police and they told us Menards partner with a tow company (MMT, Snoopy's) and cars are impounded. We had 3 young children with us. I had medication I needed and was not able to travel home. We called the number the police gave us and the guy at the tow company had no sympathy on us. He said there are signs posted on every light pole. Note, I have shopped there for years and never noticed signs. But sure enough there were signs that said " NO OVERNIGHT PARKING." NOTE: WE DID NOT LEAVE OUR CARS OVERNIGHT!!! The tow company said you can only leave your car there until 11 pm which the signs, even if we had noticed them, did not say that. He said we could retrieve our cars the next morning after 10 am but we had to bring cash only and each pay $125. Why cash only? My guess is he is trying to avoid claiming it on his income tax. I dont know. Just a guess!!!
So I am thoroughly disappointed in the Menards I trusted, after being a loyal customer for so many years to have to experience this. The signs were not posted in the direction our cars would have seen them because we parked beside the pole, not in front or behind the pole. We did not park overnight. And all 3 of us did not see any signs until the tow company pointed it out to us.
My question is: Wouldnt it be easier and nicer of Menards to gate the 2 entrances after they close if they didnt want people parking there, instead of partnering with a tow company to take people's money??? It would be in much nicer grace's to your loyal customers. And we did not leave them overnight like the sign said, if we wanted to split hairs about how the signs read. Does partnering with the tow company mean you get a portion of that money too? Such a dissappointment in your company!!!...
Read moreGood mask compliance, but terrible service in the flooring department of the Mt Pleasant, MI store. We wanted to fully carpet a house. Menards turned it into a comedy of errors.
First, the carpet did not come in when promised because the worker never ordered it! Upon questioning, the flooring manager said orders had to be paid for before ordering. Unfortunatelty when we had originally asked (with the money ready to hand over) the clerk told us "don't worry about it, you can pay later". (Please note we don't know Menard's policy and we should not need to. Customers should be able to trust a store worker to complete a transaction appropriately).
When we learned of the mistake, the same clerk told us he would expedite the carpet shipment. It took two weeks to come in. That did not seem expedited. Flooring manager excuse: they can't expedite shipping during the coronavirus. He never answered the question of why then did they say they would?.
And the piece de resistance, when we finally received the delayed carpet, we got about half of what we needed. We had given the Menards "carpet specialist" the exact measurements of the rooms! He apparently can't math. The manager had excuses for this as well.
In fact, manager Jordan had so many excuses that he repeatedly interrupted me as we spoke, giving the distinct impression that he didn't care what the problem was as much as he did defending himself against any suggestion that he - or his right hand man - had made a mistake. Defensiveness is just not a good look. Nor does it solve problems. I will give him points for showing an impressive combination of apathy and frustration. Not everyone can pull that off.
The repeatedly poor service combined with a worse manger makes me never want to work with that store again. And it made me take the time to write a review which I rarely do.
If you want to complete a job on time and with ease, Do NOT use Menard's...
Read moreI put in a pick-up order for a lawn push spreader and lime pellets. When I came to pick up the item, a man working the pickup order section was very unfriendly and rude.
He literally handed me a push spreader that was covered in cobwebs, dirt and dust. Like it was already used or something. Also, he gave it to me with the push handle fastened upside down and instructions that were TORN INTO PIECES. I also asked if he knew whether or not lime pellets could be used with the spreader. He said, "I'd be lying to you if I said I knew." Okay, he didn't have to sound so bleak about it, but I asked for some friendly yard care advice, and he didn't know ANYTHING.
They couldn't notice the handle earlier before they gave me the item? I asked them if somebody could fix it, and the other worker said, "You don't have a wrench at home?" I then started getting frustrated with him and he finally said, "We can fix it for you, it's no big deal." Apparently, it was a big deal to him if he didn't want to help me at first.
Lastly, I went to the front of the store to speak to a manager. The manager wasn't very sincere and seemed inconvenienced.
I gave her the names of the workers, and she said she thought one of those guys was the manager of that area. She asked me if I would like to talk to him about this. After how I was treated? NO. She finally said she can't do anything for me. Just gave up on me right then and there like she couldn't care less. She didn't even bother to give me her name or the name of the...
