I'm not sure what's changed my family usually orders from here once a month. We live 30 minutes away so we place our 3 individual combinations ( the combos are large enough we eat it for a few meals) then we order a large order of crab Rangoon and 2 orders of spring rolls. Everytime the woman seems so judgemental of our food order, which I've been able to overlook so far however... this time I called ahead she cut me off while I was ordering and hung up on me. We took probably 30 minutes to get there and they still hadn't made half of my order. I ended up sitting in the resteraunt waiting for the rest for 20 minutes to have her announce loudly with an attitude "here's your large order." all in all I'm over it, the foods gone down hill and so has their hospitality. They left another man standing at the counter and didn't acknowledge him for 15 minutes while I was waiting. Not a hi, how are ya... nothing...
If you're looking for a good Chinese takeout, i know its a bit of a drive but there's one in downtown alma, it's a small take out place just like this one but the people there have always been kind to everyone. The food is fast and fresh and tastes amazing. They won't judge, ignore or hang up on you. They appreciate...
Read moreI've been coming here regularly for the past couple of years with my Chinese girlfriend and I think it's easily the best Chinese in Mount Pleasant, probably the best in central Michigan.
One secret is the Chinese menu, which offers different choices than the English menu, and I think is what makes it special. Those items are a little more expensive, but easily worth the premium (and are why you will find the foreign Chinese kids eating pretty much here exclusively compared to other places).
The best three Chinese menu items are 1. The roast duck 2. the beef with potatoes (this will come with a choice of two seasonings, the one WITHOUT cumin is what you probably want) 3. the beef and eggs, which is extraordinary if you just add a touch of salt.
All are delicious and make this a favorite restaurant of mine. My girlfriend says the roast duck is the best she has ever had, and that means a lot considering she was born and raised in Shanghai and First Wok's duck is her favorite.
I don't really do reviews (let alone give 5 stars), but I really can't recommend this...
Read moreMy friend and I almost didn't go because it didn't seem like much. So glad we did!!! The sesame chicken and garlic shrimp were amazing! You can tell the sauces are made from scratch. The shrimp were deveined, tail removed and huge! The chicken were white meat and in small easier to eat pieces with not too much coating. The egg drop soup is made from scratch and NOT dark, thick broth with few eggs which surprised us greatly. The egg rolls are really spring rolls but have real cabbage in them instead of the usual green flavorless mush that you find in most places. We loved the rice even which I don't normally eat much of. The hot tea is free which is a huge plus and you can even watch them make your food! For only having 5 tables this place had a lineup to the door the whole time we were there not because they were slow but because there were just that many people coming in for Cary out. We will be back!! I also must mention the small lady behind the counter. She not only was helping cook but taking order and was so sweet and helpful in helping us decide...
