I would give them zero stars if I could after my most recent visit there on Saturday. We had reservations for a party of 15. There wasn't really a problem with the food, it was decent besides some cross contamination issues and allergy concerns. My sister in-law has a mushroom allergy which she made very clear from the beginning, but mushrooms were still mixed in with vegetables and same spatula was used to serve the veggies with mushrooms and ones without. The main issue was my boyfriend (the birthday boy) got up to talk with someone across the table and the waiter came and took his food without asking and before he was even finished. They agreed to comp the meal and remove it from the bill. Which, that is another issue is they did not ask us how we were going to split the bill and just put it all on one bill which, mind you there are 15 people so it was close to 700 dollars. They were of no help splitting it, besides one nice waitress who was the only one who apologized about the situation. Not to mention the rude lady that laughed when my boyfriend stated he would like his food back. They also tried charging us for a candle from a birthday dessert which we did not request. After we left the restaurant they proceeded to call and harass us with calls and text messages calling our entire table liars, and that they "reviewed their cameras and video" and that he had finished all of his food, which is not true at all, you can see food on the plate still in the video. The restaurant had already agreed to comp the meal from the bill, and then proceeded to threaten to call the cops for something that was their mistake!! So unprofessional, I have never had such a terrible experience. I have been here a few other times, but will never be back after this. Don't agree to comp the meal and try turning around and blaming us for your mistake. All over a 30 dollar meal that YOU took from someone before they...
Read moreAmazing. Simply amazing. To start, they have renovated this place into being one of the hipper places in Mount Pleasant. Neat lighting, solid tables, and interesting decor. Service was fantastic. Everyone was fully masked and we were greeted/helped by at least 5 staff members. The food was exceptional. Hot food was hot and crispy. Very tasty sauces. Humongous portions. Our sushi rolls were as big as a child's arm and our $6 tofu app was probably half a brick or more. Normally we are pleasantly full after 3 rolls but these were exceptionally thick and full of fish. Probs will only need 2 when we return. Had the Beautiful, Hawaii, and Spicy Tuna. Hawaii roll was our favorite. Originally was concerned about value as their prices are a little higher on rolls but after seeing what you get, they are probably under priced. Their lunch specials are a super bargain at 3 rolls + soup for $16. Expecting this place to explode in popularity, go soon before it becomes a crowd.
As an important reference, we also tried Kuji last week and have been to Midori several times. Kuji's sushi was fantastic as well but quite a bit smaller than Sumo's. Kujis hot food was uninspired, greasy, and small in comparison to Sumo's. The staff and furniture were also much better at Sumo. Kuji just feels a bit cheap. Kuji also had a lot of employees who didn't respect masking. Everyone at Sumo was masked the entire time. Kuji, ya'll should visit and take notes. As for Midoi, Sumo is the better value but Midori has a better bar. Midori is a bit more refined but you have a lot more options and get a lot more at Sumo.
Looking forward to having a real sushi place in town and excited to try...
Read moreDon't let the outside fool you, this place has some very good food! It's basically in a strip mall so parking is plenty.
Upon entering you can choose to sit at a booth, the sushi bar or the hibachi grill. This time we chose a booth-I say this time because we'll be back!
I ordered a piña collar and we got the shumani for an appetizer. The drink was good and the shrimp dumplings were just the right size to share and get the taste buds going.
W ordered our dinner when we got the appetizer and they timed the food fairly well. The surf and turf came out first and it was just a few minutes later the roll came out.
Before the meals came the surf and turf came with soup and salad. The soup was basically broth, but delicious and the salad was small but had a tasty dressing.
The surf and turf was cooked wonderfully and everything tasted delicious. The steak was tender and the lobster and shrimp was cooked perfectly.
The yummy roll came out warm and, as the name implies, yummy!
Our drinks were refilled in a timely manner and the wait staff were not intrusive during our meal.
Cost is a bit higher, $40 for the surf and turf, $11 for the yummy roll and another $11 for the drink. Although I think the cost for the roll is about average so maybe it was just the surf and turf that was a bit higher 🤔.
The roll came with 8 pieces I believe and they were pretty big pieces. I think I would have preferred smaller, bite size pieces but it was still yummy 😋
I will definitely be returning because they have a very extensive menu and I want to try the hibachi (it looked like a...
