When Dr. Angle said it was the time to start treatment, I was in a process of converting from a contract to full time position and my new dental insurance that has an ortho benefits and covers my kids wasnât active yet. I told Toni ( person that does contracts with patients) about that since I was getting calls often from her to sign a contract and start treatment. She insisted that she will give me a price equal to the price when you start treatment with active insurance and I donât need to loose time. She said that we can start treatment, and she will submit everything to insurance company when my insurance will be active. I have a witness of some of those conversations. I had very good relationship with the office at that moment and I decided to sign a contract in March ( insurance became active in August). Again, I signed because I trusted them and In addition, I paid everything in full. My contract that states the only services rendered âcomprehensive orthodontic adolescentâ was for $5850 ( paid in full by me). Later I found that their contracted amount with my insurance company is $5000. In this case they overcharged me $850. They got a check for $1000 from my insurance, but they didnât let me know about that. When I called them, the only option I heard was to apply it to my treatment. I had to ask to give me MY money. I believed that I was overcharged according to my conversations with Toni and after several attempts to clarify with the office it was agreed to have a conference call between me, office and insurance company. IC representative said they tried to bill for services that are included in treatment ( like retainers) and they submitted incorrect claim: like treatment just started ( should be treatment in progress). After âcorrectedâ claim was submitted, I found that they claimed $5850 as ortho treatment and they claimed additional services ( images, x-rays, diagnostic casts) separately and it wasnât included in the first denied claim. It was looking to me like they overcharged me $850 and now trying to get this money from insurance submitting services that I wasnât aware of. I asked for the meeting with doctor and Toni to clarify everything. They added Nancy as claim specialist to the meeting. I explained that I was asking questions since September, itâs end of January and no one is really clarifying anything. First, I asked if Toni heard from me that my insurance was not active yet when doctor advised to start treatment. She said no. I asked her if she insisted to sign a contract before my insurance starts. She said no. That was a lie. Again, I have a witness of some those discussions. When I said that they never really clarified anything and were just giving me answer âit doesnât work this wayâ ( I believe they should give me numbers in this case), they said they never told me this. Lie again - conference call was recorded by insurance company. When I asked why they charged me $5850 if according to their contract with delta dental they canât charge more than $5000. I got an answer that they included images, x-rays and casts in that price. But contract states the only services rendered âcomprehensive orthodontic adolescentâ. And they submitted $5850 as comprehensive orthodontic adolescent d8080 code and separately- all those âservicesâ ( casts, x-rays, images). Insisting and forcing patient to sign a contract before insurance becomes active is unethical and unprofessional. To lie about this is even worse. To submit incorrect claims to insurance company, not really clarifying anything, ignoring your patientâs questions during conference call ... I donât know how to call it. Of course they will say that they did everything correctly and never lied to me. But why would I invent this situation? Does $850 worth all this time spent in calls, canceling contract, etc? No. But trust to the doctor does. In this case I donât trust them anymore. I filed a grievance with insurance company and left this office to finish treatment at...
