Hansons Running Shop — Local services in Utica

I was originally introduced to Hanson's several years ago by some runners from Stevenson High School, since then, I have not shopped anyplace else.

Service Service , above and beyond staff, kind Very Patient.

They have now after today sold me 11 pairs of Brooks and today the winner was Asic's

In full disclosure I am high maintenance and fussy when it comes to shoes. I'm Sixty Very flat feet ( 2 planter fasciitis surgeries ) 5'8 301 pounds

When I walk for my daily job, I get 5,000 - 8,722 steps and , 10k twice weekly.

Shannon is and has been my go to shoe fairy for many years.

Watches you walk, makes adjustments, and will pull out 8-10 boxes and styles until your content.

they have carpet to walk on, hard vinyl tile and of course the Tread Mill, with a full view of M-59 /Hall rd.

Today through trial and error, I favored the Brooks Ghosts, then bumped up to the Glycerin.

Then today the Asic gels were the winner

I tried on 8 pairs One of each brand at the same time, testing them like a round robin tournament .

Normal width Extended With Double Extended some 11.5 some 12

As molds and seams are notoriously different.

It is worthy to note and this is not a bad thing, just an FYI Once you make a purchase here, they only do exchanges ,no refunds.

Also the exchange policy is around 14 days, Plus DO NOT WEAR THEM OUTSIDE or they are yours forever.

So after you make your purchase, where them at home, inside on your carpeting or composite floor and make sure they are indeed the ones for you.

This is not a bias or a mean spirited comment., just know the policy before you leap.

Review addendum: In 2020 during the peak of Covid-19 I needed a pair of shoes, of course could not remember the brooks model I favored, so I called Hanson's, Shannon answered, looked up my history on the computer, Brooks Ghost was my most frequent purchase.

So she explained curbside only, which I knew and understood. Charged me over the phone.

When I arrived 27 minutes later , Shannon met me curbside with the Ghosts , size 12 in 2 different color schemes I chose the Black Base with blue highlights.

Took them home, plus a black& Gold Hanson's Tote Bag

Wore them around the living room and kitchen that evening and the next morning to give them a good trial run

Large Swollen feet at days end and Fresh Smaller feet in the AM.

This place Blesses and Impresses every time.

PS: if you like to shop local and support local, the Hanson's owners support multiple coaches and schools throughout the cities they service, so understand you may spend a couple of dollars more, but it gets back into our communities ,...

A pretty decent selection of higher end running gear if you are a serious runner and want to check out equipment such as the Hypervolt or R8. I will say, I was quite disappointed in the fitting of shoes. I don't claim to be an expert in fitting but have a minor knack for knowing my feet and the feet of my family. Years ago, my son wore a neutral support shoe. He continues to wear a neutral shoe for his day to day casual shoe. However, a couple of years ago, he suffered from a growth plate fracture and around that time, has transitioned to the need of more of a stability shoe for over pronation. As we walked in, the store associate immediately handed my son the exact same neutral shoe he was wearing without looking at the wear of the shoes he was wearing when he walked in, looking at him stand or checking for the roll of his foot. What was most concerning was knowing someone who should be a professional, did none of the prerequisites before placing a customer in a pair of running shoes.

I think many of these store associates have the potential to be some truly knowledgeable individuals. You can tell they are passionate about running. It is just very apparent they are lacking in the training to truly and safely fit customers with a sound mind for a new pair of running shoes.

I don't mean this review as a jab at the Hansons business or brand. I share my review in hopes management will take the time to work with personnel to give them the time to make this business great. And to protect the customers who trust them with...

Excellent assortment of footwear with extended sizes. I've never been into this shop before, and I can't say it'll be my first pick should I be in the market for new shoes again. I was greeted and asked if they could help me find anything, and I mentioned I was going to browse. I asked a few questions, but the willingness to help was questionable. Not sure if it is a generational thing, because the staff working looked high school age, but I felt as if the staff did not want to assist me in finding a pair of shoes I would be comfortable in. On top of that, the shoes I purchased did not ultimately work out (I wish the help was more attentive during my first visit to ensure I found a pair I was comfortable in), and I had no idea that there is a no return policy. So, I am not too sure that it'll be my first pick when I need more running gear, but other than that, it's a nice local business with a good assortment to choose from. I hope the staff becomes more attentive and is a bit more respectful (they give off a judgmental vibe)...
