My husband prefers to do most of our grocery shopping. He shops here first to try and save money. They do have some good deals price wise comparably to Safeway, but it's very hit or miss. The kids and I occasionally join him. The items here sometimes have a weird perfume or chemical smell, particularly the once upon a farm kids pouches and the produce (potatoes bags). You definitely have to check the dates on all the food. I've had to throw out meat and things like granola bars because my husband accidentally missed a date. It occasionally happens at other stores too, but it just defeats the purpose of paying less and it's not as easy to get a refund. Also, customer service wise: I'm an introvert, but I like to be friendly and kind. So, I smile at the cashiers while holding our kids as my husband pays. Not sure if it's protocol in order to avoid customer drama, but on at least 3 occasions the cashiers have seemed to go out of their way to ignore my smile, look miserable, and turn up their noses. Meanwhile, they also seem to go out of their way to make eye contact and thank my husband and tell him to have a good day. I can only guess that it's because he's the paying customer. It's funny to me because he definitely doesn't care to be kind or friendly to any associates anywhere we shop. He's very transactional, even dismissive, by a rule. Maybe it's that he exudes confidence that garners respect. Next time, the kids and I will skip the checkout part. If you can afford to go elsewhere, I would just based on the iffy quality of the food and high markup on many of the household items. The Pleasant Hill location has fresher food and friendly staff, but it's far. I shop there when I'm out running errands...
Read moreEdit: Changing my review from 3 to 1 stars. I've reached my limit with this Grocery Outlet, I don't plan to shop here again. They have some of the usual Grocery Outlet challenges, like selling expired food and not always having consistency of what they carry. However what has made this store not worth patronizing is the terrible customer service. The employees don't want to be there and take it out on customers. Now with covid19 it is 100x worse. Plus they claim to socially distance in the store but almost none of the customers or employees care how close they are to others, and 25% of customers aren't wearing masks correctly or at all.
Previous 3 star review: This Grocery Outlet is privately owned, which has pros and cons. They have better selection than the Grocery Outlet on Marin in Vallejo. However their prices are frequently a bit higher. There is no security at this store, cashiers and baggers are expected to act as security, which is both unreasonable for the workers and leads to fights and other crime in and...
