I am located in Vancouver Washington and have been trying to rent suits from the Vancouver Washington store. My wedding is June 8, 2024 and I have had my group number set up since January for 7 suits. These have all been prepaid. As of today, 6 of the 7 have been fitted and ordered.
Now my issue: We went in yesterday to have my groom, Mike, fitted. We made an appointment. Our wedding is large and expensive and we really want him to look his best. We are very excited about our wedding and were looking forward to the fun of choosing and fitting his suit. Sadly our appointment was frustrating and at times horrifying and we left without a suit.
Here is what happened:
HERE’s where things went SERIOUSLY wrong
Salesperson brings my groom a white shirt. It is VISIBLY dirty and stained with sweat. Ugh! NO ONE should be asked to put on dirty sweat-stained clothes!! My groom declined.
My groom was given pants to try on, the clasp and zipper were both broken. He was told to hold the pants with his hand. What???!!! How are we supposed to see the lines of the jacket while holding the pants with one hand and your fly open??
He was given one shoe to put on to check the length of the pants. How does this work lopsided?
He was given the jacket to try on. It was FARRRRR too big in the torso. FAR too big. He looked like he was swimming in it. The jacket could be held 10 inches out from his stomach. We said it was too big. The salesperson said “that’s the style and it’s not too bad “. Please note: I have grown sons that I have taken several times to be fitted for suits and at NO time did they have suit jackets that pulled 10 inches away from their body!
We left.
I am absolutely horrified at the dirty clothes. I’m upset that no care was taken with our fitting. Our concerns about sizing and cleanliness were shrugged off. Honestly, I have NO confidence in the Vancouver store.
Question: Can I expect my groomsmen to be given dirty stained shirts for my wedding?? What assurance do I have that their clothes will be clean and free from stains??
Question/concern: If this is the sizing process, what assurance do I have that my groomsmen will look sharp and neat?
Question/concern: If sizing is so generic on the rental suits that my groom was not able to be adequately fitted to look sharp at our wedding, why didn’t the salesperson offer to sell us a suit? We indicated at the start that we were open to buy.
At this point I’m considering canceling my entire order, asking for complete refund and moving my order to a different company, and posting negative reviews. At the very least, we will go into Oregon to the Clackamas Town Center store.
I have sent this to mwlistens but I have heard...
Read moreOur visit to Men's Wearhouse in Vancouver had the potential to be a 5-star experience.
My fiancé and I came in yesterday to find a suit for our upcoming wedding, and we were immediately assisted by an associate who was absolutely AMAZING. She was attentive, thorough, and demonstrated outstanding customer service. When my fiancé requested alterations, she quickly brought out the tailor, and they efficiently handled everything. Before cashing out, she triple-checked our order to ensure accuracy—like I mentioned, she was thorough. We ended up paying $500 for the suit, pocket square, and alterations, which was a great deal.
The issue arose when my fiancé needed additional measurements taken for a custom shirt required for a separate wedding. None of us—including the associate—were aware that store policy prohibits taking measurements for items not purchased from Men's Wearhouse. Without knowing this, the associate happily assisted us. Keep in mind, she was only three weeks into the job and had no idea about the policy.
As she was taking the measurements, a woman (presumably the store manager) approached and asked why we were measuring in centimeters. When we explained it was for a custom Filipino groomsman shirt, she simply said, "Okay," but then immediately turned to the associate and, in front of us, yelled: "JUST SO YOU KNOW, IN THE FUTURE, WE DO NOT PROVIDE MEASUREMENTS IF IT'S NOT OUR PRODUCT. IT IS NOT ALLOWED."
My fiancé and I were stunned into silence. To make matters worse, the same manager then proceeded to yell at another associate at the register—for reasons unknown. The entire scene was not only unprofessional but also deeply embarrassing for the employees involved.
Having worked in retail for years, I understand the difference between constructive coaching and toxic management. This was the latter. If coaching is necessary, it should be done privately—not by reprimanding employees in front of customers. Yelling at staff on the sales floor not only damages morale but also creates an uncomfortable shopping environment. Did I mention the store was busy and filled with other customers?
We felt awful for the wonderful associate who helped us and even apologized to her for the situation. I sincerely hope she did not face further consequences for what was, at worst, a simple misunderstanding.
Overall, the shopping and tailoring experience was excellent, but it was tainted by a manager who lacks proper leadership skills. I highly encourage Men's Wearhouse to provide her with some management training because no employee—especially one so dedicated and new to the job—deserves to be...
Read moreIncredibly disappointed with our experience today at the Vancouver Mall location. The store is packed full of customers waiting to be helped, multiple of which have stated that they made appointments online for a time slot over an hour ago and we’re still waiting. Three of the four employees are assisting those who signed in on the “retail” sign in, one helps customers who are waiting for rental assistance (the bulk of the customers here waiting). The store has piles of clothing strewn all of the floor and tables, and the staff cannot find what they’re looking for. We have now been waiting 45 minutes after our appointment time slot, without a greeting, without an apology for the wait, and without any direction other than to write our names on the sheet and that they’re not going by appointment, but by first come first serve on their paper sign in.
EDITED TO INCLUDE RETURN VISIT: Returned a second time a month later, the store was in more disarray than before and the employees (including the manager) were equally as unenthusiastic as before. This time, they explained that it's summer and that it's "always like this," which I would hope is not true - as this is your business and the only major store in the greater Vancouver area who offers suit rentals for events. I understand giving the focus of your attention to the customer you are working with, however not having anyone to answer questions or to completely ignore all other customers in the store waiting in long lines among boxes and garbage strewn all over the floor is unacceptable. I'm embarrassed to have all of our groomsmen coming from out of state pick up their suits from this store, especially after paying a collective $1,400. This is not representative of the Men's Warehouse brand that I have worked with...
