I came in to get a bridesmaid dress hemmed on short notice. When Lucy measured me she made it apparent that there was a lot of material and me, never been to a tailor or had clothes hemmed before didn’t think anything of it. I asked her a price range and she told me she wouldn’t have any idea until she was done. She told me the dress would be done that following Wednesday which was sooner than I expected or had given her. I called Wednesday morning to confirm the dress was ready and to confirm the price. She told me $400 for a dress to be hemmed. I was in total shock I asked her 3 more times to confirm. I then made it in shortly after to see the dress and speak with her on how in the world it could be that much. The 6 other bridesmaids had their dresses that are the EXACT STYLE AND MATERIAL hemmed and altered all over Tolland county as well as in NY. The prices of their dresses to be hemmed/altered ranged from $35-$85. I tried to understand where she was coming from but the dress itself cost less than half of that. Even if I wanted to pay that I couldn’t because she never mentioned to me she only took cash. I left that day and told her I’d be back the following day. I came back with my friend with some experience in this field of work. In the end I had to pay $200 to have a dress I will wear once hemmed. I think that Lucy was very unprofessional and she was judging my own character and almost telling me that I don’t have to worry about money when she doesn’t know anything about me or my income/expenses. My first experience with Lucy was less than satisfactory. She did an alteration on a very expensive coat and botched the length. It was wearable but it wasn't what I asked for. Just about a year later I needed an outfit altered for a wedding. I searched for another tailor, a reliable one I could count on. I started asking around and a friend of a friend highly recommended Lucy. With much apprehention I decided to give Lucy another chance. Big mistake! She ruined my expensive outfit! She kept repeating she knew what she was doing ,assuring me it would be the perfect length. She bullied me into trusting her to the point she became rude and defensive. I left there immediately regretting my decision to leave my outfit with her. I should have gone with my gut and retrieve my dress.
