I rarely every provide reviews, but this review is in response to the utterly unprofessional and unethical behavior by Chevy Chase Athletic Club. Once the pandemic had begun all memberships were put on hold. One June to my surprise I saw my card automatically charged without deciding to resume services. On July 1st I call the club stating I would like to cancel my membership as we are in a pandemic and would like a refund for June. The club refused to refund my June membership due to claiming financial hardship. With that said, I said okay, but please cancel my membership from July onward. Today is 10/2 and I am still being charged when I sent numerous emails asking for my membership to be canceled. This is outright stealing and I will be submitting something to BBB.
After noticing I was charged again for October, I send an email to the club and a women named Clair responds stating "I appreciate your communication; however, unlike every other member who needed to cancel during this time, you have tried to make an exception for yourself. I have repeatedly explained how to cancel your membership: come in to fill out a termination form or send a certified letter, per Maryland's Consumer Protection Division: "the cancellation must be in writing and must be delivered in person or by registered or certified mail." The state of Maryland gives us no other option and the Notice of consumer Rights only gives us these two options; we did not make this law, but we must follow it. Most of our members have had absolutely no problem completing one of the two options."
Not once had I received any communication from Claire stating such a requirement. Additionally, I have never heard of a law that requires canceling memberships in person. At this point I am going to contact my credit card company and report the business for Fraud. I have several months of electronic documentation which provides evidence that Clair never sent such an email and my countless requests to have my membership canceled. If you would like to avoid an old gym that is barely maintained, have money stolen, unprofessional customer service - I would avoid this place...
Read moreI would be very careful with this facility. The owners are very bad at managing billing. Look at my credit card statement below. I left the club in Feb and after a couple of disputes which I presumed settled this, I noticed very late that the owner kept charging me. By the time I found out, the credit card company would not refund me between March and May. I informed the club in September and after that not only they did not refund me between March and May, they also kept charging me in Oct, Nov and Dec. The owner was extremely rude and I found that they have done this with other members too. They sign members up and if the member does not meet their revenue generation criteria within a year, they kick the member out and make up the loss via such billing as much as possible. I am $500 down! Please...
Read moreI recently 'discovered' CCAC when looking for a place to practice squash with my daughter. I was pleasantly surprised to learn about the breadth of equipment and programs beyond the 3 squash courts (which are very nice). Moreover, they recently upgraded their equipment and improved spacing to promote better distancing. CCAC is a hidden gem and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a clean, well-run gym with...
