Starbucks — Restaurant in Village of Friendship Heights

This place is always running behind even when it just opens and has no customers. I went today at a busy time (so I understand if they can’t get to everything quick enough) but I got my drink at 9:15 and my food at 9:35. When I asked one of the staff members (black women with glasses and head wrap) if they were out of the sandwich I ordered she was really rude about it. And I told her I was just asking because I got my drink a long time ago and was still waiting for the sandwich. She said they don’t come out at the same time. And I said I know but this is a large time gap. And she responded YEP very rudely. Then come to find out my food was already up there but the girl didn’t call my name (my name is hard to pronounce so I get it) therefore I was just waiting. I could’ve inspected the bags that were up there but I hate touching the food when it could possibly not be mine and there’s always a lot of people in there at that time so it’s not the easiest to navigate. Ultimately I feel like the staff (including the heavy set white young man who was the barista) was unnecessarily rude when I wasn’t. I asked them normal questions without any tone and they replied with attitude. The barista asked ME a question (what was I still waiting on) and got an attitude when I answered. Overall this place has had so many issues with service over the years but I never complain or even get too upset. But I feel like the staff was so nasty and then tried to make it seem like I was dumb when we discovered my food was out there. There was really no need for that when I wasn’t being rude...

Was just deliberately given the little cake slice OUT FROM UNDER the twice-as-big slice that was on top, and feel it's pretty certain I was being punished because I asked about my pastry after folks who'd been behind me in line had been brought their pastries and still I waited...and (with no new customers at the counter and with there being 3 staff among whom 2 were doing refilling of machines and wiping the counter--I waited, then FINALLY asked about my item...) So, the staff person made the choice to not grab the nice big slice on top--picked that one up to deliberately give me the tiny one underneath... Unnecessary. Obligatory: I've worked service jobs & I tip (had tipped on THIS purchase!)

Edited to add: I happened to be feeling lightheaded and hoped some sugar in me would help. I was perfectly willing to wait for my cake, and I did! But I wanted to get to sit and stay sitting, and I really had seen about 2 or 3 people who'd been behind me get their items (NOT lemon cake!) brought out & handed to them before I said anything...The whole thing isn't a big deal, I just don't appreciate someone doing something a bit mean/snarky...

Please at your pace accompany me up the steps I experienced here at Friendship Heights--super cool area--Maryland Starbucks.

1. The music is relaxing, soothing, exhaling.
2. Barrista Saif is sincerely courteous, helpful, and generous. I don't know what he looks like, because of --I imagine-- corporate's required Covidcondom, yet his voice is confident, respectful, carefree. I asked if agave syrup or honey is available. I received both. Architecture and furniture are sweet, especially the twelve person rectangle wood table. Map is cool. Lighting is right. I hope you too enjoy this welcoming Starbucks.

-UPDATE for 2025 March 3 Monday- Another encouraging pre closing-time. Several men at work, oiling the ghost in the machine; reading, writing arithmatic; feathering the floor, smiling sincerely, reading -- an engaged woman, and...
