Initially we were impressed by Market Square Apartments. Notice, I said initially. We were the first tenants in our apartment so everything was new and the rent seemed reasonable. But, too many negatives to outweigh the positives. We lived here one year. The year itself was not bad aside from the total muddy mess for the first few months and noise from the construction (which we fully accepted and expected). But, when our lease was up we were given a renewal notice which included an astronomical rent increase (several hundred dollars) for any lease renewal under 12 months (not to mention a $60 water/garbage/sewer utility bill per month...$60 a month, what?!?). Okay, then, this is where the story gets good. Upon move out, you have to sign-up for a move-out inspection. I am a clean person (some probably say too clean---see photo). Several days prior to our actual move out date, I had our apartment CLEANER THAN WHEN WE MOVED IN. Erin, the property manager, came to do our check-out. I was not completely finished cleaning since apparently we could not check-out on the last day of our lease if we wanted to be present for the inspection; it needed to be earlier because the other employee in the office was too new and could not do a check-out appointment on a weekend. So, Erin walked in our apartment (did not remove her shoes---this was in the winter mind you, imagine, snow, salt, etc.) and started her inspection. She opened every crook and cranny and inspected the place with a fine tooth comb. Okay, fine, that's part of her job, and these are considered luxury apartments. BUT, her comments: 1) She took her finger along our window blinds and said that I must make sure the dust was removed from the blinds. I thought, "Okay, I can do this a little more thoroughly, no problem." 2) She went into our second bathroom and said, "Please stand here, from this angle. Do you see that? That is soap scum. You need to go to Wal-Mart and get some 409 and remove that. Then you need to towel dry your shower so that you don't have any water spots." Really, from an angle? And I need to towel dry my shower??? I asked her if the apartments would be cleaned after we left. She said, "No, not really. Our tenants usually leave them in acceptable condition." Several other criticisms were fired off before I simply asked Erin to leave. I told her I'd turn the keys in at the office when I was finished. On her way out, she said, "Oh, and the shoe marks from my shoes, don't worry about those, you don't need to re-clean those." Then, to appease her and not be charged some equally astronomical hourly cleaning fee taken from our security deposit, I spent another several hours cleaning. Then when I had cleaned the place to the absolute best of my ability, I went to the office to turn our keys in. First, they could not find our check-out folder. Then, once it had been found, they could not find the paperwork for our key fobs. There were two of us in the apartment, but we only ever checked out one fob (the other simply was not needed). I signed paperwork stating the one check-out. I had had enough of the place by then that I was just done. Upon the check-out it was corrected that in fact the apartments were cleaned for 1 hour after tenants left, but anything beyond that was charged to the tenant at a rate of $25/hour. So, after living at Market Square Apartments for one year, paying roughly $15,000 in rent to this apartment complex, upon leaving we did not receive as much as a thank you from any single person in the leasing office. Totally disrespectful place. Could not be...
Read moreI have lived here since May. When we first got here we were impressed. We like the idea of being in someplace new. The unit they showed us was very nice. But when we moved in you could tell the place was not built nearly as well as you think. These are not luxury apartments. Let me repeat that these are not luxury apartments. There were chips in the paint things that weren't painted at all the bars to my porch are bent their nails sticking out pieces of the floor weren't entirely put down. Other little things like that that you don't notice until you're living in a place. But if you don't But if you don't mark down the paper they give you when you first move in they're going to charge you and they tell you that. When we first moved in my air conditioning wasn't working and it took several days for them to fix that. When the first real cold came my heat stopped working I put in a maintenance request just like they had asked. I did not hear back from them for 3-4 days. I then called they said they couldn't find his request and told me I had to find the numbers for it. One side and the numbers they magically were able to find it. It took another 2 to 3 days for my heat to finally be fixed. Bear Property Management are the ones who finally fix my heat and they were wonderful. I will say that erin the property manager was also very sweet she acknowledged the mistake and apologize. However the maintenance man that bear property contracts for these units. Was a mistake. During one of the first big storms my ceiling to my attic blew off. It was just a small board it wasn't a big deal but it made it very windy in my apartment and I want it fixed. The maintenance man came in and told me it was my fault for having a window open during the storm and the next time I should know better. Those were his exact words. My lease is going to be coming up soon and I have already been warned from other tenants who left that the rent increase is insane. And I know they are going to be so picky about the way this place looks once I leave. I have made very few errors in the apartment. However we do have a dog there is a baby that I watch and I know I will be charged for every single thing even if it was something that was already wrong when I moved in. If the rent were let's say 400 plus dollars cheaper I wouldn't have as much to complain about. However the rent is very high here for what you get. You pay for your own water and utilities. I think people get fooled by the idea that these are new and that they're marketed as luxury apartments. But they are not. I will say for the most part I always felt safe in the community even though it's next to Walmart. The walls are fairly thin I can hear my downstairs neighbors...
Read moreWhen I first moved into Market Square, I was very excited. Loved the amenities, the people seemed very helpful. After moving in during the winter, Spring brought a slight amount of water in part of our apartment. The maintenance group was VERY KIND, and tried to help. Our apartment was in good shape everywhere else, and when it came to moving out, we deep cleaned, got the carpets cleaned on our own, and it was SPOTLESS. We moved out over the course of a couple weeks. Our neighbors commented that employees had been entering our apartment, and asked if we were aware. We were NOT. When we asked about this, it was immediately denied, no details asked. I found this frustrating as we have never had any issues or complaints. We minded our own business during our time living there, and they wouldnât even listen to our concerns. When we when through the walk through to hand in our keys, and go over anything necessary to be done before officially leaving, the employee that did the walk through commented and said the place looked great, we would be getting our entire deposit back, and if there were any issues they would give us a call. We called after a week and half to see if we needed to follow up on anything or any issues, they ensured everything was great and if we were told at the walk through that we were getting the full deposit, that is what we would get. When we received our check weeks later all we got back is $100!!!! Our apartment was SPOTLESS. I have lived in SEVERAL apartment complexes through the years, and have always received my deposits back in full. At this point, itâs not about the money, itâs just upsetting the amount of times that we were LIED to. WOULD NOT SUGGEST LIVING HERE UNLESS YOU DONâT CARE TO GET YOUR MONEY BACK.
Another point to make is that when it came to resigning the lease, we were planning on staying another year. Then, the rates they sent us were HIGHER for a resigning lease than for the same unit listed online if a new person were to move in. In the new Luxury Units, dog rent was now also being offered free for the first year - I paid two dog fees, $300 each, plus $75 Poo Prints, plus $30 each dog a moth, but if I wanted to resign, my dog rent per dog would also be going up. HOW FRUSTRATING. I wanted to stay, I wanted to say how great this apartments were... but in all truthfulness, if you want a good review and want good business... treat your CURRENT customer with respect, honestly, and in turn you will get the same. Extremely...
