(Smoothie King: Market Lane, Somers/Kenosha, WI) I’m writing this review because of the disappointing treatment and product quality I recently experienced. My wife and I are frequent customers — we typically order 3–5 smoothies a week, spending anywhere from $300 to $500 per month. Until now, we’ve been consistent supporters of this location.
During my recent visit, I picked up our usual order and noticed that my 44oz smoothie was noticeably short — about an inch from the top. When I asked about it, I was told that a 44oz order can range between 40oz and 44oz. I pointed out that both the menu and the website state the size as 44oz, not a range. After some back and forth, I asked if they could simply top it off, but the staff insisted on remaking it. I agreed for them to remake it even though I would have rather they just top it off.
When I got to my car and tasted both smoothies (mine and my wife’s), they were extremely watery tasting — essentially undrinkable. I went back inside to return them and was met with dismissive and unprofessional behavior. The same employee repeatedly said, “I got it,” without actually explaining what was being done. The employee/manager then proceeded to make me new smoothies without telling me and I stopped them saying we don’t want them anymore. When I asked for a refund, I was told they “Couldn’t refund” my money, then I said, you can’t give me my money back for something I don’t want because of how bad it is? After I made this statement, they then said it would take five business days.
Even then, the employee provided no confirmation or assurance that the refund was actually processed — she just kept saying “I got it” while walking away. This left me with zero confidence that a refund would actually occur.
I find this level of service unacceptable, especially from someone who appears to be a manager or lead employee. (The only reason I assume this individual was the manager is because they were the one to handle the entire interaction and anytime I have gone in they appear to always be "running the show"). After roughly a year of this level of regular visits and significant spending, this experience has completely changed my opinion of this location. This will be the LAST TIME my family orders from Smoothie King. If you plan to visit this store, be aware that if there’s ever an issue with quality, you may not be treated respectfully — and you may not receive a clear or confirmed refund. Read moreWe ordered three acai bowls. All the SAME. We wait for a while and we get the first one. After about 10 minutes the first person is almost done eating and then the second one comes out. The second person, a very slow eater, finishes theirs. We sit there and the third one never arrives. We look at the receipt and it's 32 minutes after we placed order. I ask them if it's coming up soon. She looks at me with dead eyes, says nothing and turns away. I go and sit down she makes it and brings it to us and has same dead expression and says not a word to us. Why wouldn't they make all three items at the same time since there were the same exact acai bowl? They made one and then served at least 5 other people before making the next one. It was like every 10 minutes they would make part of our order. Have some common sense. When you go somewhere and want to eat with three people we would like to sit down and all eat at the same time. Not 10 minutes apart from one another. They had a lot of people working so there were not short staffed. They apparently don't know how to be efficient and the lady who served us had no clue how to smile or offer an apology for the very poor service we received. $34ish dollars for three bowls and horrible customer service. I was very pleased with the staff which was mostly very young, and, African American. These young folks were very attentive and polite. The suggestions that were put forth, because this was my first time here, were excellent. The smoothies were excellent, they knocked tropical smoothie off the top of the mountain. In addition, the smoothies here were not mostly ice! And, they were much larger than the other smoothie chains. I like the fact that they use a styrofoam cup, it keeps the smoothie from melting prematurely, and keeps it cool and refreshing. These massive smoothies are exactly the same 2 hours later, and you can actually drink it through a straw which cannot be said for some of the other locations and establishments not related to smoothie King. What a great thing to get on a hot summer day. It really kills the hunger pangs, and sucks the heat right out of you. I recommended highly!
