As of right now I am a sophomore in high school, and I've been enrolled in Kumon since I was in 5th grade, and I just recently completed the entire math curriculum as a freshman in high school, so at about 14 years old. Kumon has helped me in more ways than I could have ever hoped or even imagined as a kid in 5th grade. Not only has Kumon helped me with math, but Kumon has helped build my overall character. Just to name a few things, Kumon has taught me to problem-solve on my own, as well as learn how to balance my time wisely, and to ask for help when I needed it. Kumon is undeniably something I am and always will be grateful for, as a student, and as a person. Kumon varies from all other after-school learning programs, as well as the school’s curriculum. Kumon teaches students with a goal of having them master all building blocks, and understand the "why" for every step of solving a problem, unlike school, where the goal is to have the student learn the material for the test and then immediately move on to the next concept. After having completed the entire math program at Kumon, I started volunteering as a tutor for multiple months, until I got a work permit. Now, as an official employee, I have the wonderful experience of being a teacher at Kumon in Rowland Heights to help improve the learning experience of as many kids as possible. I would highly recommend Kumon to anyone hoping to improve their math or English skills (there is a math and English curriculum), whether it be because they are ahead of the people in their class, or because they are a little behind. I for one was behind in 5th-grade math, though with Kumon, I was capable of catching up, then getting ahead, and being able to take AP Calculus AB as a freshman in high school. My favorite part about Kumon is the fact that everything is up to the student. Everything is self-paced so the child is in control of their learning, and that is my favorite part about Kumon because I believe it builds self-accountability and self-confidence for a student that will need those skills not only in school but in the real world as well. I recommend Kumon more than anything if you want to improve your math and/or...
Read moreI like to recommend strongly Kumon and Kumon Rowland Heights to students of K-12. Currently my 10th-grade son is in math X (college level) and his 8th-grade sister, math L.
Although some educators argue that understanding is more important than math skill, I often wonder why they don’t think the same for athletes, musicians, even supermarket cashiers, etc. Understanding is just the foundation, but skill-mastering through practicing is the structure. Kumon Rowland Heights accommodates both.
The director of Kumon Rowland Heights used to be a AP math teacher in high school, who fully understands the progress and the expectation of pre-college math education. The center regularly hold meetings to review/discuss individual's progress and goal, so parents and students alike know where the kids stand.
One word of advice, don't let your kids persuade you from sending them to Kumon on basis that "Kumon materials does not coincide with those of school." Math deals nothing but numbers, and there are various ways towards it. For example, division, ratio, fraction, decimal, and percentage are one same thing expressed and handled differently. Not knowing that can make math seems complicated and hard. There is no such thing as "different...
Read moreKumon is one of the best investments for my kids. We started in Jan 2020 when my son (in 3rd grade at the time) had a difficult time with multiplication table. After learning more about the program, we decided to have both kids (3rd and 1st grade) study math and reading at Kumon. When COVID hit (March 2020), kids stayed home and didn't learn much from online class, so Kumon's worksheets become an important learning tool for them. Kids were meeting with their Kumon teachers once a week via Zoom to go over the worksheets and learning new things.
2 years passed and my son is now in 5th grade. His regular school has placed students into 3 different math groups and he is in the highest-level group (5 kids from class of 30). He is doing this Kakuro puzzles as school homework now, photo attached, and they are not easy. My daughter also feels much more confident on her math and reading at school since she has lots of practice at Kumon.
Kumon has helped both my kids to advanced their math and reading and I highly...
