Surprised to see this place is 4.5 and not a stereotypical low rated Chinese restaurant.
When this is the case, service is usually focused on more than the food itself. I found this to be true on a weekend dinner at Young Moon Lu because the service was prompt but the food was just average.
The jjangmyeon should be the star dish of any Korean-Chinese place. There were only Korean people eating here with no Chinese so they definitely cater towards the Korean palette. The jjang here is a 2/5. Noodles are nowhere near fresh and tastes just like the ones you find in the refrigerated section that always has a weird texture and smell to it because of all the preservatives and stabilizers. For the price they charge here for a bowl of jjangmyeon the noodles should be fresh. Also, they don’t have anything but the regular Jjang on weekends, was so disappointed to solely come here because of the pictures of the Szechuan Jjang just to be told they don’t serve it on the weekends! Shouldn’t it be the other way around? Another indicator that this place prioritizes service over good quality food. I would not bring over my “American” friends to impress and especially not my native blood, unless you want to troll them with bad taste.
The Mongolian beef was tasty, this would be the only thing I would get but it’s pretty overpriced for cheap cuts of beef stir fried. 3.5/5 for this dish.
Sweet and sour pork aka Ttangsyuk. I give this a 3/5. Came out hot with plenty of sauce on the side. Sauce was thick and not too sweet or sour, similar to McDonald’s sweet and sour. The pork was so so. I just feel like there is better out there at a similar price point. Maybe if the Jjang was better it would have complimented the pork better 🤷🏿♂️
Overall, I probably won’t come here again because it is just a 3 star experience for a premium price. Expect to pay $30 person after tip/taxes if you want to leave with a full belly but no leftovers. The noodle portions were suspect for the Jjang, the nearby grocery store must have ran out of those pre cooked...
Read moreIn looking for a replacement for New Harden down the street, I came across Young Moon for Jajang noodles. Not only do they have traditional Jajang but also offer a seafood and ground pork version. The sauce was good although I like a little more soy sauce and pepper. The noodles are the star. Although hand made but not hand cut, the noodles were very good. I gobbled the noodles up and had remaining sauce. I was offered a bowl of white rice for my remaining sauce and still had sauce to take home. So yummy. Eating alone, I couldn’t try more items but the menu looked extensive. Next time, more noodles and maybe seafood.
Update; came back for another dish and settled on the lunch combo. Orange chicken and Jajang noodles. Since I already had the noodles and enjoyed them, I should have gotten something else. However the orange chicken was very flavorful. I would have liked less sauce but it was piping hot and I love that Rice with the leftover Jajang sauce is a must. My only criticism is the price. Although the Jajang large portion was $17 ( perfectly acceptable), the lunch combos were all $22 which I thought was a little high. Also, after a quick peruse of the menu, many dishes were $20 and some were $30. I didn’t order that type of dish but for $20, the portion better be huge! Still enjoyed my flavorful meal. I missed the kimchi side.
Latest Uodate: I’m a sucker for noodles and this place is serious about their noodles. Today I had the large JaJangbit added the fired dumplings. The noodles and sauce were excellent but I was a bit disappointed in the dumplings. Tastes frozen, which is ok but better than what I can buy at the frozen section at the Hmart....
Read moreThis place made me a fan of Koreanized Chinese food. Their launch special is heck of a deal, Sweet & Sour Pork is the bomb, Janjangmye is exceptional! will try other items on the menu next with bigger party (tho price on full item may give you a mini heart attack)
When I first visited this place by myself early this year, I thought it was a new Chinese seafood restruant, but soon realize this place is ran by all Korean crews, all items on the menu were alien to me, their service were very patient and explained to me that this place serves Korean influenced Chinese cuisine, something I never knew existed, already being a big fan of Japanized Chinese food I didn't know what to expect, so I took their adviced and ordered their Jajangmyn + sweet sour combo and boy, they did not disappoint! Jajangmyn is handcrafted udon + black bean sauce, if you love japanese food, you gonna love this as well. Sweet + Sour pork is similar to Chinese gobaorou but served in slice, it came in dry so you have to dip them into sweet & sour sauce, I love it!
Park lot is tidy but managable, more space can be found in the back of the building, overall I highly...
