OZ Museum — Local services in Wamego

A nice little museum with a very diverse collection of Wizard of Oz memorabilia and artifacts. Everything from set costumes to translations of the book in Arabic. Museum has a section for each of the characters of the movie that goes into detail of each. Well laid out. Layout provides plenty of room to move and explore. Has the feel of a "big city" museum.

Parking is free. The museum is off the main Street that runs through Wamego. There is angled street parking directly in front of the museum and all along the main street.

There is a bathroom inside, guys and gals I assume it would be for museum or gift shop patrons.

There is a Wizard of Oz gift shop as well. The location is set up into two portions: Gift shop and museum. If you're a Wizard of Oz nut and just looking for gifts, you can do so without going through the museum. But then again, if you're that big of a fan, you're going to want to do the museum.

The museum is wheelchair accessible, although during a busy time, it might be a bit of a challenge. The museum walkways are cement and are wide enough for a wheelchair to access.

The museum also has a little movie theater with 20-30 seats available to watch The Wizard of Oz playing on continual loop. ...

A journey down the Yellow Brick Road worth taking!

We took a trip to the Oz Museum in Wamego last weekend with my youngest two, and from the moment we stepped through the doors, it felt like we'd clicked our heels and landed somewhere between dream and memory. Hayden—who absolutely adores everything Oz—was in awe, wide-eyed (and sometimes wide-mouthed!) at every turn.

The museum is a whimsical time capsule, brimming with color, character, and charm. From Glinda's sparkling gown to the Wicked Witch’s dramatic glare, it felt like the story was unfolding around us. The kids got to "ride" in a hot air balloon, stand with a towering Tin Man, and even have a stare-down with the flying monkeys. Every display whispered imagination and invited wonder.

What I loved most was how the museum didn’t just celebrate the film, but the world of Oz as a whole—the books, the culture, the legacy. It’s a small town with a huge heart, and it shows in every curated corner.

This museum is fantastic! It's been on my bucket list and I finally got to visit. I would love to visit again! The quaint town has plenty to offer for an extended visit and the museum ticket is good for all day, enabling patrons to come and go as needed. The museum staff is extremely knowledgeable about the entire exhibit, the history and even the tales surrounding "OZ". Curated items on display are all top-notch. Every depiction is accurate, well explained and excellently laid out. The museum includes a small theater where the movie plays with captions. The gift shop is well stocked, carrying an impressive variety of items to purchase for any age. Photography is emphatically encouraged and there is no lack of photo worthy moments as one strolls along. I imagine the most popular photo op is in the "hot air balloon"! The entire museum is wheelchair accessible and there are restrooms inside. As previously mentioned, there is plenty more to do and explore around town, including the opportunity to "follow the yellow brick road" directly...
