A few weeks ago, I went to the Warrington Michaels framing department for a custom mat. I was able to select the color and size without issue. As promised, I received a call a week later to pick up the completed item and it was damaged. It appeared to have been dented when the associate placed it in the protective cardboard. I was offered a discount or a new mat. I selected the latter since the damage would be visible in the frame. Mistakes happen, so I was happy to receive a replacement. A little over a week later, I hadn't received an update so I called the store. The representative said that they would complete it that day. When I returned to pick up the new item, it was also dented and creased on the side. It was explained to me that it is impossible to cut a mat without dents and creases such as this, and it wouldn't be visible once I put a frame on it and was offered a discount. As they adjusted the price, I realized that the size of the new mat was incorrect. I shared this with the employee, and they initially said I provided the wrong measurements. I explained that the first mat cut for me was the correct size. They told me they no longer have that color available and would give me a refund. This was quite frustrating because I spent three separate days traveling back and forth from Michaels to get my photo mat and wound up with nothing. I am relieved that all I needed was a mat and did not trust this individual with a cherished item. After this experience, I will not use Michaels framing again. Luckily, I was able to go to Phoenix Art Supplies and get a new mat, which was completed in 10 minutes and had no issues (including those so-called...
Read moreI've been to this Michael's a few times, once for framing, and mostly the store is well-stocked, clean, and staff are kind and helpful. I feel like the standard frame section is usually out of most of the frames whenever I go there, however I'm assuming that this may be related to material shortages / shipping problems as a result of COVID. I do not remember how the stock was prior to, as I hadn't been to this store much before that. The framer I worked with (this way maybe a year ago) was friendly but I didn't really love any of their suggestions. I have to admit, I am particularly picky because I used to be a framer for a different Michael's and I am a graphic designer, so I have a very high expectation for framing in particular. He wasn't bad at it, though, it may have also just been a difference of opinion and style. He was very nice and answered all of our questions. There was one minor issue, the spacing for the inner and outer mats, that I asked twice if it could be a quarter inch for the under mat when he showed it as about 3/4, and I was assured it would be 1/4 (it was a very small painting). However it was 3/4 when I got it back. It was a bummer, but it didn't ruin the painting or anything. It still looks fine and I'm happy with it. Cashiers are hit or miss, but this is retail. No one has ever been rude there, some just less friendly than others. Last time I was there, I did have a very friendly and helpful floor/stock person offer help and had a nice...
Read moreBought 3 picture frames the other day from hobby lobby…. Wait, I have no idea what I bought apparently… because this is ending up turning into a hundred dollar project because of the failure of hobby lobby and Michael’s craft store. Don’t worry I’ll be writing them a similar review.
As for Michael’s, the guy who does custom framing, said he can cut acrylic, but he quoted me $38 for one small piece of an 14.5x17.5 inch frame. What I’m trying to do is just for fun, not something I want to spend hundreds of dollars on…(that is including everything)… and of course they don’t deal with plexiglass. So I took a thick plastic sheet from their shelves to buy, sure only $8.99, but I was planning to cut it myself, and since I’m not a professional, well, the plastic sheet ended up breaking in multiple places and I just had to toss it…. Loose plastic shards on my floor… thanks Michaels… Only eight bucks but my project will be delayed now… and with no idea on how to proceed next.
It’s very disappointing and I...
