SECOND VISIT: Disappointing Experience This is our second time at Ardana's. We were so impressed with the food, service, and general vibe of the restaurant on our first visit that we were anxious to return. Unfortunately, we were left dissatisfied on multiple fronts. First, the good things: the food was excellent as before and we loved the starters, cocktails, and entrees. Bravo!
The service was not satisfactory. The server did not introduce herself (we didn't know her name until we got the check). She did not check on us to see if we needed more water or drinks.
The server who brought the food knocked food off the plate twice and did not offer to clean it up so we had rice all over the table. We had to ask another employee to remove it.
Once the food was served, no one ask us if we are okay or if everything was correct, which is standard now. We did not see our server again until we were finished and our water pitcher was empty (which she did not notice). We had to ask her for a refill.
The general vibe felt different as well. Perhaps it is because there were a few large family gatherings, but the room was noisy and lots of loud conversations.
We will go one more time to see if this is a fluke or normal. We hope it was the exception because we were really thrilled to discover Ardana's. It's classy, the food is creative, and the decor is inviting. It was just a shame that the service and atmosphere felt more like Chilis than a upper scale dining experience.
FIRST VISIT: Wow, we love this new discovery My wife and I went for dinner and shared a small plate of salted beets with whipped feta and crushed pistachios which was so delicious. We also shared prosciutto and arugula pizza and rigatoni with Italian sausage and vodka sauce. It was so good. The crust on the pizza was some of the best I've ever eaten. The pasta sauce was very nice. We were very impressed by the kindness and professionalism of everyone who worked there: from the hostess to the servers. Great atmosphere and music wasn't overwhelmingly loud. We found a new go-to restaurant, which is always...
Read moreOur first experience here was early on during and just as Covid-19 broke out. We came during the pandemic year in 2020 as well and our brunch/lunch was pretty good. Great atmosphere and services.
We just came back here a few days ago Dec-2021) and celebrated a family birthday. It was rather disappointing. Anyone who got pasta said the same thing. It wasn't fully cooked and it was hard at certain bites. I ordered the pizza and I think so did the table behind us. They messed up my order with theirs so they got only a pizza and our table got everything but the pizza. It took awhile but they did fix it and did not charge us for that pizza. Which was great but I thought it wasn't fully cooked and was too timid to complain since I was starving. They probably could have offered an appetizer, but didn't.
Our drinks were good, a tad expensive but okay I guess. Nothing to write about. Our waitress was very helpful and felt bad for our experience with the pizza. My table was very stunned by the service of food considering the prices. Is no one spot checking the meals in the kitchen here? I do not expect these types of mistakes at a restaurant of this caliber. I am sad we didn't go to the William Penn Inn. We have always gotten great service and food there. I really appreciate they tried but a table full of family taking turns at who got the worst meal was not a good dining experience.
I will try again here later. Maybe because we came on the weekend this time the food service was subpar. I hope they fix it. I really did like my previous meals here. So I'm changing it to an average rating because of the previous visit. Again, cannot say enough about our waitress, she definitely was trying to do her best based on the...
Read moreMediocre... could be great but needs some work. The menu is a touch small, both in food selections and drink options. We selected a variety of small plates. The first plate came fairly quickly, however from there, there was no pacing like there should be. All the plates came out as they were made, and we felt very rushed. Pacing the plates would have given us a much better experience and time to enjoy each plate and we probably would have ordered twice as many drinks.
Some of the dishes could use some tweaking, the halloumi saganaki would have been a touch better had it been sliced a bit thinner and heated more, by the time we received it, it was mostly cooled and that changes the texture, however the flavor combination was good. The lamb skewer was good, but I felt like it needed something. The chicken skewer was very disappointing, flavorless and not the nicest pieces. Both the lamb and chicken skewers were plated similarly, so that was also disappointing. The crispy cauliflower was quite good, enjoyed it very much. The salt roasted beets were lackluster, and generally ho-hum.
We also tried two desserts, the chocolate budino and the affogato. Of the two we agreed we preferred the budino to the affogato. The affogato didn't have enough going on to add any interest.
The staff was friendly and attentive throughout. Other than the dishes arriving too quickly in sucession and often asking if they could remove a plate too soon, their service was good.
Great potential here, just needs a little work to...
