I really wanted to recommend the Fusion Bar. I first visited them during their opening in May 2023. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Wrap and was served a Falafel Wrap. This was funny because the most recent Google Review I read alerted them to the same mistake. Thankfully, I like Falafel and they were the same price, so I didn't complain. The wrap was was fine. Nothing special. I also tried the Sev Puri which was something new for me and I liked it.
Later, as I contemplated ordering via their website, I found it to be engaging but not at all accurate. In May, the web site menu did not match the actual in-house menu. I alerted them to this and now, approaching August 2023, it still remains wildly inaccurate. I also recommended that they really need to include a description of the dishes on their menus. This too has not been addressed and is gravely needed since their food variations are non-traditional. I have found that ordering a meal online is like rolling the dice. You can’t be certain what you will receive.
On two separate occasions I ordered different noodle dishes (Singapore and Manchurian). They were very similar. They tasted OK, but they were not impressive. The noodles were broken up into shorter pieces and dominated the dish with hardly any other ingredients. Very disappointing.
Recently, I ordered their “Butter Chicken”. I don’t know what it I received, but it was not Butter Chicken and it did not look anything like the picture in their menu. I have had many versions of Butter Chicken. This is not even close to one of them. The sauce was a thin and a strangely spicy sauce not reminiscent of a “butter” sauce. Also, the chicken was tough.
Additionally, both the Tandoori Roti and Garlic Naan breads I received were tough - like eating cardboard. The rice was overly bland. My boil in bag rice is better. They breads reminded me of taking a grocery store version of mass-produced Naan and microwaving it thus rendering it inedible. The Roti was inexplicably cut into small traingles and were stiff as boards. The Pani Puri I ordered was mushy and was overpowered by raw onions. Nothing in this meal was good. I threw most of it away.
As I look at the Google reviews of this restaurant, I am left with the impression that the owners have enlisted every friend and family member they know to leave glowing 5 star impressive reviews for average if not substandard food. In fact, there are at least 3 reviews over a weeks long period of time that have the EXACT SAME food picture of a noodle dish with a coke can and a fork in the noodles you can see a pair of camo pants. Each review is from a different person and the picture is exactly the same. Look carefully and you will see many reviews that contain the exact same picture of food, but the reviews are from different people at different times. Can you spell FRAUD?
If you must try this place, I encourage you to eat-in only, ask questions prior to ordering and make sure to complain when your meal does not meet...
Read moreI was excited to try the fusion bar. I really wanted to eat pav bhaji and vada pao today, so decided to finally check out the place (their website mentions both the items). Interestingly, though Pav bhaji is listed on their website, it was not listed on their menu. When we asked them, they did indicate that they have it, but it's not listed on the menu. We ordered vada pav, pav bhaji and noodles. Here is what I liked about the place.
Location is good. Woman at the counter was pleasant to speak with. They have fairly extensive menu.
Here is what I did not like.
Food: I was thoroughly disappointed. The food was unbelievably and unnecessarily spicy. Our mouths were on fire and intestines were burning by the time we left this place. I am still feeling a bit sick.
Food was neither authentic nor could it be classified as fusion food. One of the main ingredients in a Pav Bhaji and Vada Pav is pav. But, they decided to substitute pav (the only pan-cultural ingredient in the original recipe) with hamburger buns for both these items. I would have been okay with the substitution, if it was specified on the menu. But, it was not.
There was no vada inside the buns; it was some sort of mashed potatoes patty (clearly not vada). Again, if I wanted to have a potato patty, I would have ordered that.
We were told that Singapore Noodles has carrots, peppers etc. We didn't see any carrots. And, it looks like they put turmeric in it.
Ambiance: There was a not very pleasant odor in the place. I should note that I my olfactory sense is very strong. My partner didn't mind the smell that much. However, we both noticed that one of the cooks in the kitchen did not wear a head cap, which is required by the health department.
Service: The owner was pleasant until I told her that I was missing the pavs. She instantly came up with the most lame excuse--she finds pavs sweet, so she decided to substitute it with buns. Ha! The idea of using pav for vada pav is that the sweetness of the pav balances the spices used in the vada. She ended with saying that they will take that feedback. However, her body language seemed to indicate otherwise. Though the feedback was given with good intent, her smile vanished and her body language became very rude. So, the owners are good if you like the food.
Fusion food needs creativity. They lack it. Authentic Indian food needs patience. They lack it. They substituted both creativity and patience with chillies. So, if you like red chilly powder in all your food, go for it. If...
Read moreI came here specifically to try the "Fusion" dishes, as the restaurant's name is 'The Fusion Bar'. Unfortunately, this was a huge mistake. The fusion food was profoundly disappointing and some of the most unflavorful I've had in a long time. It wasn't good American food, and it wasn't good Indian food; it was just bland, lacking any of the spice or creativity you'd expect.
To make sure it wasn't just one bad choice, we tried several items. The Grilled Chicken California Style was the single most flavorless sandwich I've ever eaten. The Bombay Club Grilled Sandwich was so pathetic we couldn't even finish it. The Chicken Kathi Roll was merely bearable. Even the "Fusion Ginger Soda" was uninteresting and seemed like it was just plain lime soda.
The service and atmosphere were fine - nothing special, but perfectly acceptable. It's a small place with decent seating.
I can only guess that the restaurant's high 4.5-star rating comes from their traditional Indian dishes, which we did not try. Based on my experience, I can strongly advise this: do not waste your money on the fusion menu. If you visit, skip that...
