Our experience at Stauffers has always been excellent until today. We had a very poor interaction with the General Manager. After buying cooked, de-veined shrimp in the morning, we noticed a completely yellow colored shrimp when we went to cook them. We threw this shrimp away, but made sure we reheated the shrimp to ensure all bacteria was killed. I had one bite and it tasted rancid. I immediately threw the shrimp away for the safety of my two young children and pregnant wife. We contacted customer service and were referred to the general manager. Instead of trying to help a customer, he was immediately defensive questioning what we actually ordered and seemed to imply that we were being dishonest. Asking questions like "where did you get the shrimp'" and "why would you recook shrimp". He claimed that we bought the "ring of shrimp", not fresh behind the counter shrimp. We told him that we were not in the business of digging through the trash on a Sunday night to bring a rotten shrimp back to him. He told us he needed to "investigate" and would call us back. In the meantime (expecting him to continue to give us a hard time), I disgustingly dug through our trash and found not only the yellow shrimp, but also the wrapper proving it was not a ring of shrimp. Again, the last thing we wanted to do on a Sunday night was dig through our trash then bring a yellow shrimp back, but we did. When the general manager approached me in the store, he seemed completely annoyed. Never once apologized, admitted he was wrong, or tried to treat me like a loyal customer. He spoke to the customer service employee like I wasn't even there and told him to just refund (essentially just so I would go away). In my opinion, you do not treat customers who spend thousands of dollars at your store like this. We NEVER complain or return food unless there is a significant reason for doing so, which has never happened to us at Stauffers. We have purchased groceries, birthday cakes, seasonal items, plants, trees, etc. here; however, we were completely dismissed and treated like we were somehow lying over $19 shrimp. That is really unfortunate for a local/family owned store. We will...
Read moreStauffers grocery has a very nice selection and some of the most beautifully organized shelves I’ve ever seen. It is clear the store values tidiness and care of the products they sell and it follows, their customers. If you want to get their sale prices, it is easy to input your phone number to become a member. I appreciate the world market type of things, the fresh foods, and really enjoy their store-made Shepherd’s pie. Also enjoyed their in-store made zucchini-banana bread. They sell Pellman’s baked goods too - very tasty - best with freshest dates. What I have noted on several occasions at the self-checkout area, where the customer service desk is located, is that some of their employees will stand and talk with each other, not acknowledging customers and this takes away from the store’s feel of care. Go ahead and talk a bit, have some fun at work of course, but be sure to keep eyes on the customers and appear approachable to assist. Once in the summer I interrupted two idly chatting store personnel that the plants out front were very dry, drooping and needed water. I was told the person who worked outside wasn’t there so it would have to wait until tomorrow. Said in a pleasant way. In the back left of the store they have a great selection of greeting cards and napkins. In fact the whole far left has home products from furnishings to clothes and games. Fun to...
Read moreI've been shopping at this Stauffers location for as long as I can remember (so at least 30-35 years). Through all the changes, all the growth, keeping it traditional while catering to the incoming tastes of those moving into our little town of Lititz, etc this store has remained a trusted source of all manner of delicious and fantastic goods for the pantry, home and garden - many of them locally sourced. The store is always clean and well stocked, the staff are always kind and courteous, the foods are always fresh, and if you ever need Customer Service they are honest and helpful. Plus the Seafood dept. is out of this world! The best around. Oh and the Christmas displays are truly magical! They've done a very good job of designing the store to keep you interested - and shopping - for a long time (much to my husband's dispay) - there's just so much to look at! The items themselves may cost a bit more as a result, but the quality you receive in return is obvious, and worth it. One thing we have been missing during the pandemic (since I'm immunocompromised and have not shopped "in store" in quite some time) has been our favorite cashier Brenda. She is such a ray of sunshine and if we spotted her, we'd always pick her aisle...
