The staff at Kettering Health Washington Township ED are amazing people. My child was brought in having an medical emergency and they worked together as a team to provide the best care for both my child, myself, and my family during an extremely difficult and scary time. I felt we got the best care possible from all of the nurses, doctors, and staff members possible.
Lydia was his primary nurse and showed great skill and compassion. I was confident she would take great care of my son. I know that had to be an uncomfortable situation for her knowing it was my child and having the pressure of taking care of him but she was amazing and I can’t thank her enough.
Dodie was there helping in any way she could and provided much needed emotional support. Bonnie worked very hard to help out and be supportive. Theresa the nursing supervisor came to assist was able to step in and take control of a hectic and highly emotionally charged situation with grace and compassion. Dr Hunter was amazing with quickly assessing and treating my son as well as quickly getting the proper consults placed. He even stop by before his shift the next day to visit us in the ICU to check on him.
In ICU, Ricky and Karen took excellent care of my son and I felt very confident with them overseeing his care. They both made sure to make me feel as informed and comfortable as possible. Prior to us coming to ICU the charge nurse Sara had already made up a sleeping chair for me and had placed a bed extender on my sons bed knowing he was very tall. It’s the little things like that that makes such a huge difference.
The intensivist Dr. Tyner, Dr. Alli and Dr. Brown, as well as Dr. Eze and Dr. Ammula with nephrology were all phenomenal. I have worked with these physicians together as part of the patient care team for several years but being in this capacity as the patient or mother of a minor patient was very eye-opening. All Physicians involved in his care made me feel 100% comfortable and confident that we were at the right place. I felt each one went above and beyond to make sure he was receiving the proper treatment and furthermore to make sure I felt comfortable with the treatment plan. I cant thank them enough.
Once to transferred to the medical floor, Jerri took excellent care of us ensuring we had everything we needed. I was almost immediately met in the room by Angie, the nurse manager that let me know she was there and available for us if we needed anything. That meant a lot. Amy was our nurse overnight and was quick to update me on any changes and lab results. I really appreciated that. Taylor was our nurse on the day of discharge and was excellent in keeping us informed and making sure the discharge process was smooth. The techs on the MS floor were great as well.
Dietary made several trips to our room to ensure he had everything he needed and even brought up some extra snacks. For a 17 yr old boy, that made his day!
I am so proud to call ALL of these people- physicians, nurses, and auxiliary staff my coworkers. I used to always say if I were ever a patient I would never want to be brought to my hospital just because I thought it would be uncomfortable to know everybody. Boy was I wrong. I don’t believe we would have received better care anywhere else . I truly believe we have some of the most caring and most skilled nurses and doctors in the area. I want everybody to be recognized for the great care they provide to me, my son and to patients EVERYDAY!
Thank you so...
Read moreWhere do I even start? I just delivered my first child on 11/30/20 and southview was recommended to me as the hospital of choice to deliver, and they definitely met my expectations. The nursing staff and doctors were fantastic and made me feel supported and cared for the entirety of my stay. They were great to my husband as well, which I felt was important since we both were experiencing a major change to our lives by having our baby girl. Several specific shout outs I’d like to give are to Janet, Lucinda, and Melissa. All of our nurses were great and attentive, but we spent the majority of our time with these three women and they were informative, advocated for me, and supported me before, during and after my delivery. Another person that was awesome was the anesthesiologist Josh, who made the epidural a breeze. I was beyond scared to get the epidural and heard a lot of horror stories, but Josh was so quick, steady, and supportive that I barely felt the process. There’s so many others that I would love to thank and point out, but honestly I had some difficulty with my delivery so sometimes I didn’t always pay attention to the names, but always experienced a bright and smiling face, which was comforting. The food was amazing, they offered free meals to me and gave us two vouchers with a generous amount of food to my husband. The only reason I gave southview a 4 is because there was one nurse that didn’t check my fluids regularly, so I ran out of my epidural and was in a significant amount of pain until it could be refilled and get the full effect again. My husband had to argue with her to be ahead of the game the next time I was closed to running out, and that was frustrating. The bed I was in on the delivery side was extremely uncomfortable and didn’t work completely, the lower part wouldn’t elevate at all even when the nurse tried to help and so my feet were painfully swollen by the time I was switched to post delivery rooms. And lastly, the couch was nice and long for my 6 foot 5 husband to sleep, although was rock hard and we stayed at the hospital For 3 nights, so it was super uncomfortable for him. Being the great husband he is, he didn’t complain since he knew my discomfort was significantly worse, but it would have been nice for him to be comfortable so that he could be refreshed to help me. Otherwise the hospital staff was amazing, the stay was great, and they made my first experience as a new parent a good one and I’m grateful to them for the support...
Read moreThis is the second baby my wife and I have delivered at the hospital and this stay was far from a good stay. Some of the nurses were not friendly and did not seem to know what they were doing. Every room I was in was not stocked accordingly and did not have the supplies necessary to handle a delivery and postpartum. Every room I was in also had maintenance issues. Both the delivery room and the postpartum room had door problems where the doors had problems shutting and opening. The delivery room also had sink problems where the sink would run continuously without anyone being around it. It is bothersome that there were so many maintenance issues with the hospital. When it was mentioned to a nurse about the maintenance issues, she informed me that the nursery door had issues as well and she hated the door.
Nurse Janice was overbearing during her time being are nurse. Towards the end of her shift my son was taken for his vitals to be checked and she informed us that his glucose was too low. She said that she had to provide him with supplement and glucose gel. I informed her that we were worried about not providing enough natural supply for our son and I wanted to switch to supplemental formula. She continued to sway me towards providing him natural supply even though I had mentioned to her a few times about this. As she was leaving the room, the door was almost shut when she informed me to cancel the discharge and our son was not leaving. The way she stated it was “cancel your discharge”. Her communication and how she stated that to us was not professional and was disrespectful as my husband and I were told we were being discharged and were looking forward to it.
Nurse Alicia was our best nurse during our stay at the hospital. She is a postpartum nurse and you could tell that she cared. She assisted with everything we needed to ensure we were comfortable and are baby had everything he needed. Alicia was very friendly, polite, and caring during her time as our nurse. Many of the nurses need to look at her for guidance in bedside manners and taking care of the patients...
