Terrible experience. It's incredible how a gym that prides itself with being a family-run independent business close to the customers, and part of the neighborhood community, has taken advantage of one of his customer.
Here is what happened. I requested to cancel my gym membership 7 days before the renewal date, as I had an emergency and would not have been able to use the gym on the following month. They told me they had a 10 days cancellation notice, that they would not exercise any flexibility, and that they would press on and charge me for the following month despite the fact that I was not going to be able to use the gym for a single day.
I am extremely disappointed about this charge. When I first joined Mint a few months back, as a long-time Adams Morgan resident, I was really excited to become a member of a community of gym enthusiasts that support a local business. In particular, I trusted the flexibility and friendliness displayed on their advertising emails. You can only imagine my disappointment in seeing that as I faced an emergency, MINT did not display any sort of flexibility and common sense.
My advice -- go to any other gym in the neighborhood and avoid MINT. When you need any flexibility, they will not be...
Read moreBest health club in DC! Excellent instructors, wide variety of classes, and kind atmosphere. With three locations, it offers so many opportunities to find the workout or class you enjoy, from classes to free weights, to cardio equipment. It also greatly invests in local community partnerships so that members can get discounts/perks from other local businesses. What I think sets it apart from other gyms is its kind, neighborhood feel, and extreme cleanliness. I have never felt "judged" or "looked down upon" for trying out a new class, or a new weight lifting machine. The founders created MINT as a family business, and that family atmosphere has trickled down to its members and staff team over the years, and remains the main reason why I continue to go to MINT. Absolutely love this health club, and I encourage everyone to give it a try if you are looking for community, encouragement, and motivation to reach your...
Read moreThey market on being a friendly and independently owned, but what’s the point of going to the small guy when they have no personal touch and gouge their customers? They shadily make it hard to find how to cancel, and even when they’re fully aware you want to cancel, terms are buried on an intentionally confusing website, you call ahead for instructions and make your cancellation wishes known, they’ll avoid giving you all the details until it’s just barely too late and charge you for a new month you can’t use. Like major gym chains, they have no real commitment or courtesy to their customers. Save money and a headache and just sign up for a better managed chain of gyms. I normally always go with independent businesses, but I didn’t see any perk of doing that with Mint DC, just as unhelpful and money squeezing from customers as...
