My husband and I rented a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment at the Westend Apartments for 6 months this year during my husband's sabbatical year and loved every minute of living here. The location is unsurpassed in convenience, as it overlooks beautiful Rock Creek Park and the bridge that crosses into Georgetown. The corner itself is packed with wonderful stores --Metro groceries, Liberty Cleaners, and much more--along with terrific coffee shops, restaurants, bars, and other service establishments, such as hair and nail salons. The apartment complex itself is wonderful in every way. Its lobby is attractive, and the people at the desk, such as Tracy, are terrific—they’re friendly, warm, respectful, accommodating, and helpful in every way. Ellen and others in the administrative offices are likewise warm, very helpful, and accommodating. All service needs are taken care of immediately. On a couple of occasions, we inadvertently pulled out slats in the blinds in our living room, and these were repaired within a matter of hours. Any issue is managed expertly, immediately, and with good cheer. Our apartment itself was wonderful. We own a home in Massachusetts and haven't had any experience with apartments, but ours was absolutely perfect. It was extremely clean and comfortable. As we were on a corner on the 4th floor, we had two large and comfortable balconies, which were fantastic in good weather. In cold weather, we were still able to enjoy the full-length windows overlooking stunning nightly sunsets. Our bedrooms were spacious and terrific for guests. The gym is small but very adequate, and the laundry is clean and easily accessible at most times. Mail is handled professionally and conveniently. Residents can simply drop off all pre-paid packages, whether they're UPS, USPS, or FedEx in the lobby to be picked up daily. The rooftop area is beautiful all around--one can sit in small private areas overlooking gorgeous sunsets, or enjoy the company of others in larger group areas to barbeque or have drinks. The pool is quite nice. I can't say enough positive things about the Westend Apartments in Washington, DC, in the Dupont Circle area. We would definitely live there again if we needed a place in the city and there...
Read moreI’m extremely disappointed with my experience at Westpark. Unfortunately, I encountered a situation that I believe highlights the lack of care and professionalism in managing this property. The new property manager is just a joke!!!
I discovered a cockroach in my apartment. This was both shocking and distressing. Naturally, I reached out to the property manager immediately, hoping they would address the issue urgently. To my disbelief, their response was dismissive. The property manager stated that this was "not an urgent matter" and suggested I simply "push aside the cockroach and go to sleep” when I told her that I saw the cockroach on my bed one day and had to leave the apartment and drive 1 hour at midnight to stay with a friend. No apologies, no empathy, no actions, just ignorance and incompetence. I lived in the building for 5 years and never had any issues before. Since the new property manager took over building has been falling apart. It takes weeks to fix an elevator, while it would take max a day before. The entire building stayed without AC for days when it was almost 100 outside and she didn't even bother to update tenants but instead fired the best concierge who worked there for 5 years and whom everyone adored!
This response was completely unacceptable. A pest problem, especially one involving a cockroach in such a personal space, should always be taken seriously. The indifference shown by the property manager left me feeling unsupported and deeply uncomfortable living here. I moved out the next week.
If you're considering renting here, think twice. This incident speaks volumes about the management’s priorities and lack of responsiveness to tenants' concerns. I would strongly advise anyone to look elsewhere unless you’re prepared to deal with potential pest issues and dismissive management...
Read moreI have lived here very happily for 2 years. However, recently a chain smoker has moved into the unit below me and the smoke travels up through the connecting air vents and turns my apartment into an effective hot box every day. I can’t sleep at night due to their late night smoking binges - which last at least 4 hours a night- and I am worried about the health of my dog and myself. We are having increased allergy type symptoms and my eyes sting. I went to the 9th floor the other day and the whole end of the hallway smelled like a 1950s casino thick with smoke. It was SHOCKING.
I’m not willing to get secondhand smoke cancer just because I lived in this apartment. I’m told the building is not smoke free and becoming smoke free is a long process that grandfathers in current smokers. I was not given this information before I moved in. (WHY WHOULD AN APARTMENT BUILDING IN THIS DAY AND AGE ALLOW SMOKING?) The building puts charcoal filters in everyone’s air vents, but this accomplishes very little. It is 2023 and having cigarette smoke forced upon you insane. Smoking is known to cause cancer and other health concerns. Having cigarette smoke forced upon me with no recourse is a clear violation of my tenant right to quiet enjoyment of my unit.
If a person chooses to smoke themself to an early death, that’s their choice. But they certainly have no right to make that same choice for everyone else who lives in their building.
The building has otherwise been very charming and pleasant. Fairly quiet and clean with polite people. It is a pity that they are letting smokers ruin it...
