This is my honest review. I was invited to an event held there and I expected so much better. The pieces to paint on are beautiful, but the process was not. The event itself was priced at what my friend assumed included the price of paint and 1 piece. Hint: it wasn’t cheap.
Other hint: It did not. You are charged separately and the price is insane considering the paint is less than $2 on their website. They supply you with broken brushes (also sold at $1 on their site which lets you know the quality) and child size trays of paint in which you have to ask 100 times for refills. They claim it’s so you don’t blister the piece, but imagine trying to paint a massive vase with 6 drops of paint. Yeah, it’s tedious and annoying.
For an event that wasn’t targeted towards children, I was upset to be treated like one. The event was priced at something like $30 per person and then the finished pieces would’ve cost my friend almost...
Read moreWe went to paint a bowl for a weekend outing. Large selection of pieces to choose from. Process was explained and the workers told us they would be refilling our paint wells. We had to raise our hands for more paint about 20 times throughout the process since they would only dispense a very small amount of paint, usually for a few brush strokes before we had to ask again, and this included diluting the color with water so we wouldn't ask as often. It felt like we were taking time away from the employees making their own pieces continuously asking for refills so we decided against a third coat. When we picked up our piece, it was a little disappointing to see it covered in glaze blisters, especially on the inside of the bowl where we only had one coat of paint. We love to support local businesses but its hard when the quality is lower than the...
Read moreThe first couple of times I painted at GD were great but I've had at least four visits that were unpleasant and super expensive!
I have been overcharged on two separate occasions. One time an employee charged me for the largest picture frame when I had painted a small one and the other time they charged me for an extra hour!!
I've also gone to pick up pieces and they were closed w/o anything posted on the door or website! I only found out why they weren't open when I asked the owner days later.
I'm usually not a person that complains but I've been to other "paint your own pottery" studios...
