To be honest, I'm not quite sure how to begin this review. I was quite taken aback with what my grandma and I experienced this morning upon visiting.
I'm visiting from NJ and my grandma has always raved about Pet Paradise as she has brought her yorkie here many times. We had scheduled her yorkie and my miniature dachshund to spend a few hours here today in a private space while we visited Plant City. I was excited to finally experience this place, along with my pup, after hearing the great reviews from my grandma. However, my experience wasn't as stellar as I had hoped.
Upon walking in we weren't welcomed. We checked in with a woman named Valerie who seemed overwhelmed or in a foul mood. My grandma had chatted with them numerous times over the course of a few days, including with the manager that she has spoken with before, sharing that it would be my first time visiting. My grandma also shared this information a few times with the women at the front desk this morning, however no one seemed inclined to piggy back off of that. Once our pups were checked in a young woman took them and said, "This way." We followed her through the front gate and she then looked at us confused saying, "You're not allowed to come through here." My grandma shared again that it was my first time and thought I could have a tour, as she had had a tour with her husband the first time she visited, making her feel comfortable with leaving her pup there. The young woman looked confused and pointed at Valerie at the front desk saying we would have to inquire with her. She took our pups to the back, yet no one shared the process, offered a tour, explained the camera option, or inquired about my pup's personality, even when I shared that he was attached to me.
We left and came back less than 30 minutes later as I didn't feel comfortable nor welcomed. When we arrived back we were met with the same unwelcoming feeling, yet again. Valerie was at the front desk on the phone, along with another young woman. Neither greeted us and my grandma shared that we would be picking up our pups. The young woman checking us out was new, and it was of no fault of her own, however Valerie was quite unpleasant. She did not say hello, ask why we were picking up our pups so soon, or offer to give a tour/explanation of the process, nor an apology. I shared that I did not feel welcomed and that no one explained the process or offered a tour, which is why I did not feel comfortable leaving my pup with them for the day. The young woman shared that we would have to inquire about a tour, which we did, and I shared yet again. The young woman was very apologetic, however Valerie was not. She did not empathize, nor try to make the experience a better one for either of us. I shared that my pup is like my child, and I wouldn't leave a child here after an experience like that, so that was why we were picking them up. What made me even more alarmed as well was that they didn't know where our pups were located upon checkout. One young woman thought they were in a different part of the building when they weren't. Once our pups came out I asked Valerie for her name and she did not even look at me when she shared it. I thanked her and told everyone to take care, including her.
I do hope that she is addressed after this experience. I'm sure she is aware that when working at a front desk you are the face of the company and any interaction, especially face to face, leaves a lasting impression. This impression though was one I would not want to experience again. Sadly, despite my high hopes for this place, I will not...
Read moreI took my very healthy two year old Doberman to be boarded on a Friday morning originally for the weekend. I had preauthorized outdoor playtime for him on Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting. While checking the webcam on Saturday, it was raining and I called Pet Paradise and asked them to please bring my dog inside. They said it was almost time for play time to be over so he would be in soon. I repeated I wanted him brought in right away but they did not, as I could see on the web camera. At that time, I also requested that if it was raining the next day, on Sunday, to please NOT put my dog out at all, as it was going to be cool again. They expressed, “if it’s thundering, no dogs go out” and I reminded them it’s 50° and a cool rain and again I did not want my dog out in the rain again. However, on Sunday, as I looked at the webcam, he was out in the rain standing against the fence trying to get in. I called them and reminded them my wishes were not to have my dog out in the rain and AGAIN nothing was done about it. I was originally picking my dog up Monday morning but came home early to pick him up Sunday before they closed. I picked him up around 4:35pm. When my dog was brought to me in the reception area he was reverse sneezing which I pointed out to them. Overnight, my dog worsened. By 4:37am, my dogs breathing became labored and was said to be within hours of his life by a Veterinarian. Now after one week, and nearly $5,000 later, with an initial 24 hours in the emergency Veterinary Hospital, my dog has been dealing with a severe case of bacterial pneumonia which is still being aggressively treated. I have had numerous Veterinarians throughout this ordeal tell me that having a dog outside in the cool rain was not a good idea and know that my wishes had been for my dog to have been brought inside. I reported this to the Pet Paradise regional manager Rachel, which I have had to contact versus her calling to check on my dog. I made very clear that the right thing to do is to let other parents know that their pets had possibly been exposed to this highly contagious illness yet that was never followed through by Pet Paradise. I know this because I know another pet boarded there at the same time and the owner was never contacted and alerted of this. The regional directors response was, “we have disinfected the premises”. Never once was any concern shown to my dog by any of the staff, nor the regional office and even charged me for the stay. My intent initially wasn’t to blame Pet Paradise for my dogs illness, but now I wonder if another pet brought this into their facility and nobody alerted me! The lack of concern and responsibility they showed to not alert other pet parents is unacceptable and completely irresponsible. I, like many others trust the staff to take care of my pet and honor my requests. Had this been done, it’s most likely this would not have been a near death experience for my pet and a...
Read moreAt first I was very apprehensive about leaving my cat for the first time ever, but the associates over the phone seemed very caring and insured my pet would be in great care. Fast forward to day 2, I receive a phone call stating that they are having troubles with my cat due to his behavior and they were asking me for any tips I may have. Quite frankly, I was very shocked. I have an extremely friendly and social 10 month old kitten that loves people and loves attention. If his behavior was anything other that that, it was strictly because he was scared and confused. I told them some of his favorite things and we agreed to chat the next day. Mind you, I was 8 hours away on vacation. I received a call the very next day stating his behavior had not improved and if anything was worse and that he would need to be picked up right away. The woman stated that they were unable to care for him properly due to being unable to get near his cage without him hissing, growling, or jumping at their associates. Again, completely shocked as this is 100% not my cat. He was terrified and clearly no one took any time with him to gain his trust. Luckily, I had a neighbor that was willing to pick him up and care for him for the remainder of my trip. While I fully understood the need to pick him up for the above stated reasons, the experience only got worse. Once my neighbor got to the facility to pick him up, the staff was rude and snippy towards her. They informed her that they would not be going anywhere near his cage and she would have to remove him. They informed her that she would be liable if he harmed any of their staff and if she was unable to get him, animal control would have to get involved. If they told her once, they told her 10 times that he was banned from every single facility they have. She stated any time someone spoke his name, they all shuttered and cringed. It was clearly a terrible experience for all involved, but he is still my pet and loved so much by my family. So to hear the way they spoke of him, was extremely infuriating and hurtful. I watched on the video as the staff high fived once he left the facility. How extremely unprofessional and not how a business who claims to care for animals should be run. Once home, he was completely back to his old self, snuggling and purring and begging for attention. Clearly, something was missing there. Here are some pics of my “highly aggressive cat” who almost warranted a call to...
