This was my first trip to a 5 and Below Store. It was the absolute worst retail experience I have ever had. The store said open at 10 am, I am standing at the back of the store door at 11 am. I knocked on the door because the General Manager Chris is standing and just ignoring everyone piling up at the door. Then at 11: 05 am ish an elderly employee with bleached orange hair is walking up with dread on her face, rolling her eyes, and sighing. She opens the door and does not apologize to anyone for opening late, nor does she say hello. I then asked why the Gerneral Manager chose to be rude and not open the doors and just ignore everyone. She said I do not know I am just the front end manager. I said since your a manager why did you open the store late. She said I do not know I was scheduled at 11 am. She said she did not know how to answer questions. She said I can talk to the general manager. I asked okay let me speak to the general manager. She ignored me multiple times. Then the General Manger starts walking up with a charged demeanor ready to fight. I could not ask any questions, he kept arguing with me, and trying to pass blame on me for their unprofessionalism. He was yelling and making a scene. He told me because I sitting there calm does not mean I am not picking on him. He said I feel like your trying to get something different out of me. I was hoping he had the skill set to calm down, and listen and answer my questions. He was not able to emotionally regulate himself. In the meantime customers are walking out, without purchasing items. Chris attempted to try and gas light me as if I was the problem. I was not able to reply, because orange hair lady started interrupting me and said I was picking on her as well. My questions are; what is going on that you opened the door more than an hour late as advertised, and why you choose to be rude. They said I was rude for picking on them. I could not understand why the General Manager Chris choose to be rude and emotionally to be unregulated. Then to make things more chaotic other employees choose to circle us because it was such a scene, and they choose to laugh. The General Manger said if I had questions to call corporate and they can look at the cameras to prove I am the rude one. I said I have no problem with that. I can then ask them why you opened an hour late, and chose to be hostile. I told the Manager he does not know how to handle himself, and this was immature. He said to take my child and leave the store, they do not need my money, and I can go to 34 other stores in Utah. I said wow this is one of the most immature experiences I have ever had. He said he wasn't even going to bother giving me the corporate number, I can google it. I said the courteous thing you could do is give me the number. He said no. So my family and I left and went next door to the dollar store. I talked to some employees at the dollar store and I asked do you hear about complaints about next door. They said yes everyday. The store is never open, the staff never helps, they are rude and everything is $5 and above not below. So this my very first experience with a 5 and Below store, I will never shop at any of them. The staff comes across as they the type of employees that bounce around from job to job because of their instability. I found the culture to be disorganized, hostile, and chaotic. They ended up yelling at each other and when she tried telling manager she just tells lady to get out of store. Really rude they didnāt do anything to the guy who started it he was threatening to hit them and she still didnāt do anything. this manger was out of line yelling at this lady and not kicking the guy out. This was very unprofessional of this manager. I didnāt get her name.
