Greetings! I am having difficulty in deciding which factors make this store so wonderful. Is it the owners and staff who actually run the business or the amazing and abundant product selection? I have to go with BOTH! This is hands down one of the most amazing stores in the USA. I wear a large size boot (13) . I was recently in the shop twice within a 2 week period and managed to procure 5 pairs of cowboy and work boots at unbelievably fair prices. The selection is vast. There is something to choose in every price point and style. The other plus is, that by my estimate ,90% of the boots and socks are actually made in the USA or Mexico. Translation is..... unbelievable quality and master craftsmanship for an excellent price. I also purchased a fantastic cowboy hat. The jewelry is stunning! This store should be considered a national treasure. Now, a moment about the staff and their professionalism. This is old school retail(I am in my late 50's) and I remember what it means to be treated like a customer not a cog in the vast retail machine. I forgot to mention I have been going there on and off since 2000 (Sometimes with a long hiatus ) . Yet, every time i walk in the staff remembers my name. These folks are real human beings with concern for their patrons. A piece of advice to future customers.. LISTEN TO THEIR SUGGESTIONS! These folks are not trying to UPSELL you. They are building a relationship. Leave your preconceived notions about retail outside the shop. You will benefit from their years of experience. Finally, a very heartfelt thanks to the following people: Mani ( for your infinite patience with me and my endless questions) ,Maria - Ditto , Robert for being the true gentleman that makes your shop amazing. The lovely woman cashier who finalized the purchase. And let me not forget Conrad the man who i first met 20 years ago and got me hooked on Alcala's . Thanks everybody. See you...
Read moreSolid prices for boots. Came in for a pair of Luchesse just over $300!? I am from Texas and grew up wearing boots my entire life. If you don’t know Luchesse in the boot world is like the Gucci of boots, although they do make less exotic daily boots too. Although, I do know this maybe while supplies last as Luchesse during the pandemic did stop distribution to small vendors for a period of time across the US during the pandemic. I buy both ones for dancing and others for daily wear. Additionally they have some of the best quality shirts and jeans. The staff at each area is unique in that they are experts whether it is boots, jeans, hat shaping, jewelry and buckles, or making custom clothing. I witnessed the staff helping many new comers to western wear and was impressed by their knowledge and the efficiency of the system. My one drawback or gripe is that the hats sold are exclusively Stetson. As a Texan I prefer Resistol because I prefer the style, quality, and price. I have several from straw to wool. Additionally, there is a limited selection of wrangler jeans. The jeans they sell are the original style but I prefer the retros that sit low on the waist. I am not a big man, I am 5’7 150lbs, take it from me or don’t but I grew up with livestock cattle, hogs, and horses. We have a boarding stable back in Texas outside of Austin TX (where I am from), and I have worked in industrial natural gas in East TX and TN, as well as mined underground in the Colorado Rockies. Ive worn many boots and jeans. This store is the real deal for Chicago and I appreciate given my business to a local business. I look forward to returning for more boots and hopefully one day soon a new...
Read morePlease, if anyone cares about their boots do not take them to get repaired here. I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE YOUR BOOTS FOR COBBLER SERVICE AT ALCALA's. I went in for a zipper fix on a pair of boots. The person who took down my ticket told me it would be no problem. I get a call two weeks later saying my boots are repaired and good to go. I pick up my boots after the call and the zipper wasn't fixed. Cool, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and agree to leave them there AGAIN. They promise me they'll be ready the next day. Two weeks later I get a call saying they are FINALLY fixed. Mind you, the boots have been in their possession for a total of a month now. I went to pick them up, and they added a horrible leather tab pull to only one of the zippers, when I had specifically stated both tabs needed repair. I leave the boots with them YET AGAIN after they say they'll fix the problem. I get a call the next day and they basically tell me they can't fix my boots aside from the work they've already done. At this point, after all the money spent, I'll take the loss and never step foot into this...
