The host (the one who proudly claimed that she’s the “original one” from Ukraine) started yelling at me for having “too much of an American” accent when I was asking her in Ukrainian what places my friend and I should visit in the Ukrainian village. Although I work and help with interpreting between languages and I naturally jump between accents, the host was condescending and extremely inappropriate and unwelcoming. For whatever reason, she decided she should give me a lesson and school me like a middle school boy, simply because she didn’t like “how I sound”. Meanwhile, she was standing in the door, making it impossible for me to leave unless she finishes her point (this is something on the level of false imprisonment).
