Read moreThe food is ok, and the atmosphere is nice and looks authentic, but only at first glance. The service is more than questionable, and rude to non-Ukrainians. As a Ukrainian who brought my foreign friend of a different ethnicity there, and I felt really bad for how she was treated by the stuff. One example: my non-Ukrainian friend arrived 20 min earlier than me, the place was half-empty, she asked for a table and the waitress told her to wait a minute. (There were many open tables and we were there till the closing at 9pm and it was still half empty, so they weren’t expecting any people to come with a reservation.) So my friend was there, sitting for 20 min waiting for a table fully unattended, I arrive right away and ask for a table in Ukrainian and they finally seat us. The waitress didn’t even comment on that and didn’t even give my friend a simple apology. I’ve noticed passive-aggressive attitude from that specific waitress towards my friend all night.
As a Ukrainian I thought how cool it would be to take my friend to a place that resembles my culture. The atmosphere is nice and I ordered takeout from here before so I thought that would be a good idea. Ended up just feeling bad for even bringing my non Ukrainian friend there. I hope people who come from other cultures and nationalities don’t get the wrong impression of Ukrainian hospitality. So much for sharing a supposedly authentic place with a friend. Thanks, but I think I’ll stick to other places from now on. The food was ok (nothing special or outstanding that you can’t get at other places, but I thought it’s worth coming for the atmosphere - I was wrong. That attitude isn’t worth it. Eurasia and Sizl are two other paves that offer great borsch, even better than here, so if you want to try borsch or pierogi, thankfully Chicago offers other great places. I’ve always liked the cheesecakes at Tryzub, but I if I ever want it again I’ll order takeout to avoid the service...
Read moreI have been here before. It was good. Today it was terrible-food,service and drinks!!!! They had a special drink menu for their independence celebration. We didn’t want that and asked it we could get a cocktail. She said no- only the special menu. I ordered the sour cherry vodka and a sparkling water to fluff it up. My friend thought it was too sweet and the waitress insisted the honey vodka would be less sweet. NOT. My friend told the waitress it was disgustingly sweet and she didn’t care one bit, no offer to change it. AND while we were waiting 50 minutes to get our meal, we saw cocktails being delivered to the other tables!!! I ordered soup and an entree and my friend ordered just the entree. 50 minutes later ( did I mention that before? That we awaited 50 minutes??), I asked a waiter ( since our waiter was disappeared) if I could have some bread or something because I was on my second drink and I needed food in my stomach. He came back to tell us that my soup came with four pieces of bread. I said that was fine and dandy, but I didn’t have my soup or the bread and I wanted something NOW! And I said it wasn’t fine that my friend wouldn’t get any, but she was’t drinking her terrible drink so she wasn’t getting tipsy. He didn’t care and left. The food finally came and they brought the soup and the entree at the same time. What??? I told them I didn’t want them together. He offered to take the Chicken Kiev back. Well , I had visions of it sitting there under warming lights or waiting another hour for a new one. So I just told him to leave it. The mushroom soup was great. The chicken Kiev was terrible. Dry as a bone. The menu said it came with creamed parsnips, peas and something else. No. It came with 6 teaspoon sized dollops of creamy something. Didn’t taste like anything. And certainly was nothing resembling a vegetable. I have never seen a restaurant get food, service and drinks wrong. And to lie about the...
