At Christmas time I visited the Ukrainian Museum in Chicago with my son, thinking that, as non-Ukrainians, we might pass a little time and learn a few things especially in the light of the current unprovoked and brutal Russian invasion. Two spellbinding hours later we concluded a fascinating tour given by guide Kseniia, who brought the history of Ukraine alive with fascinating and informative stories which exemplified Ukraine's rich and inspiring history. Kseniia took us back through centuries of Ukrainian civilization, demonstrating the resilience and bravery of countless generations of Ukrainians as they built and fought for their country, struggles which also produced a deeply rooted culture of poetry and visual art. I highly recommend a visit to this wonderful treasure of a museum. Kseniia was an extraordinarily well informed and talented guide and story teller. Our visit was informative, moving...
Read moreIt's one of the best small-museums I've ever been to. The whole experience we had was significantly worthier than the the small fee they charged us - just $5 per person. Strongly recommend having their in-house, free tour-guide. I can't clearly recall her name (sorry) but she was very passionate about and explained the rich history and traditions of Ukraine which is generally not known to many of us - at least among the people that I know of. I know that I'd visit there again. I'm sure most of us know that Stalin's years were brutal for eastern Europe, but we'd understand its true depth when we learn about what Ukrainians had to live through. The whole museum is a whole package of colorful Easter eggs, traditional embroidery, architecture, history through the eras of swords and guns, modern artworks, and achievements of Ukraine and...
Read moreWe loved visiting this museum. I was very surprised by how emotionally moving some of the exhibits are. We spent about 2 hours here and could have easily spent 3 or 4. The entire staff is so friendly and happy to share about the various times in history, exhibits they have, and their own stories. If you are interested in learning about Ukraine or have any family ties, I highly recommend stopping in and giving yourself at least an hour to visit. They do have free on site parking (I was slightly worried about parking before we got there). They have a large variety of beautiful items and history, along with information about current events. The only draw back was not having enough time to read and see everything. Many times when we go to a museum we don't read or see every little thing. But here I would absoutley have loved to...
