First off I want to say that we did enjoy our experience here and we did enjoy the food, there were just some things that slightly dampened our experience while we were there.
We arrived at 1:55pm and looked through the menu for about 10 minutes before ordering some glasses of wine and some food. My friend and I split a cheese board and I did think that it was weird that no preferences were asked, but no big deal we didn't mind. However when I asked which cheeses were on the board the waitress didn't know. We brushed that off, but probably would have preferred a little bit more information on what we were getting or at least her offering to ask what the cheeses were for us. Food came out it was really delicious as was all of our wines.
We had a friend join us about 45 minutes to an hour later and only then were presented with the happy hour menu right before we were about to order another round of drinks. I don't mind paying full price, but if happy hour starts after our order was taken (on our check our order was put in at 2:07 HH starts at 2) and not even a mention of it I thought was a little inconsiderate, but we brushed this off as well.
What really upset me after all of this was when our waitress came out with our second round of drinks one of the beers was half full because it tapped out. She told us she would comp the one beer and we were completely okay with that. When the bill arrived our waitress informed us that she comped two of our beers instead and I said I really appreciated it and tapped my card. Upon looking at the receipt when I got home to split the check with my friends I realized that not a single beer was comped which really bothered me. 20% gratuity was added automatically which is fine that's what I add anyways, but now i'm wondering if maybe that's why we never received the HH menu upon arrival.
Overall our food and wine was great and I will be back I really enjoyed the vibe I just hope the next experience...
Read moreI used to go here all the time to buy nice wine - but not anymore. I just discovered they CHARGE 5% SERVICE FEE just for walking in and buying a bottle of wine. I don't know if they've been doing this all along because no one said anything before and I didn't notice. But still - no thanks. What is the service fee for? Talking to the staff, breathing the air in the store,....? Sad, but I'm not going there anymore.
Reply to your response:
I understand that you are adding this fee to provide benefits to your staff. Of course, I support this effort. But I still disagree with how it's done. As a business owner, I get your plight - however, there is a better way to do it. You are not allowing your customers to make an informed price decision - by waiting until checkout to tack on an additional fee. And there isn't any signage or anything to educate people to make this choice - it's just on the check. Your intentions are good, but your execution is terrible.
Price your items correctly - don't do it as a sneaky add on fee. Your customer walks up to the counter to buy their wine and cheese - and then the person behind counter says "Oh yeah, there's a 5% service fee added on." Now they have to make a snap decision on that - and have other people behind them waiting.... It's manipulative social pressure vs honest business practices - I don't care what your intentions are, the way you've set this up is to manipulate your customer into approving a price they have not been able to think about or decide upon themselves. Either you knew this and have set it up so -manipulative and underhanded. OR you didn't fully think about it - hmmm.
So - thanks...
Read more5 stars is not enough for this place. A wonderful neighborhood spot that should be known across the city. If you are driving in the city any time after 10:30 on a weekend, then you are doing yourself a disservice by not coming here. It is incredibly easy to schedule an order for pick up and quickly pop over. Right next to a marianos, do you shopping or create an errand just to come over here.
Everything about this place is incredible. Every weekend we look forward to our pick up of half a dozen bagels and cheeses. These bagels are the best in the city. The way they salt and butter them will leave you unsatisfied after two whole bagels. The two of us go through a half dozen in less than 24 hours. I cannot stress the delicate and perfectly flavored bagels these are. It is worth walking across the city in sub zero weather for. They are extremely organized and will have it ready for pick up if you schedule ahead. Please do not let the hours turn you off. It is well worth the wait for it to open!! They have an incredible system that will not leave you waiting.
Additionally their cheese, wine and meats selection is top notch. One of the best cheese boards in the city. You will go once and be hooked forever.
Again I cannot stress enough the absolutely quality and taste of...
