If I could give negative stars for Home Chef, I would. The shipping is spectacular. The support is anything but customer service. I escalated to a supervisor named Michelle, who tried to tell me that she is a Supervisor and a manager (because she manages a team) and there is no one else. Michelle also said it is "okay" to write a poor review, so here it is. Of course, it is my prerogative to report my views & it is legitimate. After receiving my first shipment from a Groupon offer, I wanted to make sure that I was done and no other orders was to be expected. Sara said it was all complete - I have nothing more to do. I was charged another $20+ and sent a duplicate of the first order. The food quality was okay, but I wasn't thrilled with the recipes from the first week, so I would not have ordered them again. This is an unauthorized charge, for which I will dispute with my bank. Sara did not put a hold on the account and I did not authorize a charge even if I had another meal(s) to order yet. Finally, Michelle, the supervisor acts like the entitled millenial she is. You do not talk on a business call like you talk to a friend. You are the representative of the corporate face. This was exceptionally poor and she should not have access to a telephone nor a computer. Completely unprofessional. I imparted a lesson I learned at age 16: a poor customer service story will be told to at least 10 people who will tell another 10 people and they will tell another 10 people. That was only for printed ads of the 1980s! This is the internet, which is forever. If you want to try a meal, it's okay. It is a raw protein, fruit or veggies that are needed with the recipe and any other ancillary sauces, grains, or even butter. Go to Mariano's and buy it if you want a quick prep meal with next to no shopping, but you really aren't saving money and if you take the time to browse meals, you can shop and buy it even cheaper. I will be sending a letter to corporate, because Michelle doesn't seem to believe I will do that, too because that was also "okay". Maybe then she will find out that it isn't acceptable, nor is disconnecting a call. That is only acceptable if a caller is crude, objectionable in vile language, or abusive. Being told why her call has gone sideways is none of those things. I sincerely hope that Home Chef executive management pays attention and will appropriately retrain representatives and empower them with better tools because these reps truly do not care about their company or how they will drive it into the ground. It could serve some well. If you can read, you can cook. There is nothing exceptional about this but for the packaging. There is also nothing proprietary about the meals, except for prepared flavoring included for the meal. You can figure something out or Google a similar recipe. The service is the other half of the the equation and that is a...
Read moreI've tried several of the home delivery services, and of them all, Home Chef definitely meets my needs best. They have the flexibility and choice of Plated but the price of Green Chef, and yet, they offer better foods--that is, more what I like to call 'family-friendly' foods, things my whole family enjoys. Also, I've found their portions are more generous than many of the other services, even though they have some of the best prices.
These meals are easy to make... my 20-year-old son can grab the card, grab the right color-coded bag, and follow the easy, step-by-step instructions to get it done and turn out a meal that looks like it took hours to make.
Best of all, we have had more time to spend together, instead of worrying about making grocery lists, shopping and unloading things. Everything is pre-prepared as much as possible, so all you have to do is get down to doing the cooking. It's like having your own personal sous chef at home with you!
And we haven't eaten any fast-food or take-out at all since we started using this service. I can choose from one meal to a week's worth and leave out things I don't like or enjoy. There's also usually a breakfast option too--and I think the fresh fruit add-on is a nice touch, especially since some folks are in 'food desserts' and can't always get access to fresh produce regularly!
And don't think it's just for families. A single person can do the 2-servings, prepare one meal for dinner and save half of it for lunch the next day saving money and time, since you're cooking only once for two meals. If you usually eat out for lunch at work, this is a nice change of pace!
When we find a meal that looks really delicious, we'll order enough for one lunch and one dinner of it so we can have more too!
And as for customer service, I've had to contact them about a few questions and their customer service is personable, friendly and fast! Even when I was being a bit difficult due to a billing/card issue that wasn't their fault, they were super friendly and helpful to me.
I hope they stick around for along time. I'm getting...
Read moreWe started using Home Chef in 2018 and used them up until this week. During this time I have lived in a few different locations and had no issues until living downtown Chicago where Home Chef uses Veho, a last mile delivery service and they are terrible! As we all know package theft is on the rise, so it is important that my packages are delivered inside the locked building. I would prefer them come to my door, but I will settle for the lobby. Home chef’ corporate office is located in Chicago, so I would think they would understand the importance of this.
We do not have a doorman or any type of staff to let them in when they arrive. So I asked for the drivers to call me via phone or the intercom so I can buzz them in. This is something that DoorDash does daily with no problem. But Veho driver continually ignore those instructions and leave the package outside the main door to the lobby and not inside the locked door. Many times my packages are left in the hot sun, take me forever to find or never located at all. Home chef has refunded me on those orders but as of last week is taking the position that a package being left outside my building is a “successful” delivery. Mind you, I am paying $10.99 a week for these packages to be delivered to me. Their position is that it is a successful because I eventually tracked it down and got to enjoy my meal. This isn’t complimentary shipping with my $75 weekly order. Week after week I am spending my person time trying to resolve that weeks shipping dilemma. It’s disappointing that home chef does not expect better for their customers. It’s even more disappointing that they don’t understand the importance of leaving a package in a secure location in downtown Chicago. Not only is their position on this frustrating but their customer service has been as well. I have asked several questions and offered many suggestions which have all gone ignored. With all of this taken into consideration we decided to park ways...
