We noticed on the website that the hotel promised “elevated cleaning practices”. This reassured me that we made the right choice. After booking, my confirmation email once again promised free breakfast and elevated cleaning practices. We made the road trip out to Chicago. After a long day of driving, we were more than ready to check into our room (I believe it was close to 10 PM at this point). At the check-in desk, we noticed a small sign that informed us that there would be no breakfast. This was quite frustrating to have found out at the last possible minute, as this was very important to us in choosing this hotel and had not budgeted for having to buy every breakfast during our trip. We went up to our room, eager to drop our luggage and finally be able to relax after a long and stressful day. The first thing I did was pull out one of the office chairs to take a seat - and it was covered in crumbs. The other office chair was covered in crumbs as well. As I made my way around the room, I became increasingly disgusted. There were old yogurt cups and other garbage behind the nightstand. The surfaces were covered in dust/crumbs and had definitely not been wiped down. There were hairs covering the walls and floor of the shower (both long head hairs and “shaven” hairs as well). The room’s walls were covered in something sticky, in both the bathroom and the room itself. In multiple areas, it looked like (pop?) had been sprayed all over the walls. The bed sheets weren’t tucked in, which made me wonder if the sheets had even been changed at all (later that night, I would find a wrapper and an earring in the sheets!). This led me to believe that the sheets hadn’t even been changed since the last guest. Instead of being able to relax, I spent the next 45 minutes cleaning the room to a point where we could at least tolerate the condition of the room. We were absolutely disgusted. “Elevated cleaning practices” seemed like more than a joke at this point. Additionally, one of the support staff gave us false information about the parking ramp, leading to us losing over $50 to park for one night. We weren’t overly upset about this, but it definitely added on to our already very frustrating experience. The next day, I called customer service. I spoke with “Jaylo” on May 28th (call #4579001). He asked me for my home address and assured me that I would be followed up within 7-10 days. I waited 2 ½ weeks before making another call on June 9. I spoke with “Grace”. The only thing that she was able to tell me was that I could claim 3,000 points as an apology from Wyndham. Being that 3,000 points is worth less than a half night’s stay (and also expires in September), this was not a satisfactory reciprocation for me. I am not even confident in staying again with Wyndham given the experience that we had. We were absolutely disgusted with the service that we received from Wyndham and have so far not received any feedback other than “sorry”. We were extremely disappointed with...
Read moreI just returned from a weekend stay at this hotel- overall, it was a pleasant stay.
Room: We stayed on the second floor facing South Franklin street. I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet the room was. You couldn’t hear much traffic unless a loud vehicle went by or hear neighbors in adjacent rooms. The only issue with noise was hearing the adjacent doors open and close because the doors don’t block much sound. The room worked for what we needed- clean, comfortable bed, good A/C (after letting it run for a while after returning to the room). My only issue with the room was that there was not a safe to put belongings. I prefer to have that option.
Staff: Overall, they were friendly. The service was not 5 stars, but I don’t expect that from a lower-end hotel.
Location: The hotel is located on the Loop one block away from a Loop train stop. Union Station is an easy quarter mile walk away. We never felt unsafe in the areas surrounding the hotel and the public doors to the hotel are locked after 8pm with the front desk staff only buzzing in hotel guests after that. The area around the hotel is mostly business buildings, so it’s a fairly quiet area on the weekends compared to some more lively neighborhoods. The drawback to that is there are very few restaurants and bars in the area directly around the hotels that are open past 8pm or open on the weekends at all, since most of the customers for the businesses are the professionals that work there. Be prepared to take public transportation or walk several blocks to reach an area with plenty of restaurant options.
Breakfast: It’s a free hotel breakfast. Not the best you’ll ever have, but we were happy to have the option. There are not many food options available, so if you have a food allergy (i.e. gluten) then you are not going to find much to eat. Breakfast is also late on the weekends and only for 2 hours (8am-10am) so the breakfast room was packed. However, our last morning we were leaving to go get breakfast somewhere else because we needed to eat earlier than 8am and we were pleasantly surprised to see the breakfast had opened early at 7am. So if you want to eat earlier than 8am, it doesn’t hurt to go check if it...
Read moreNot so good hotel. Good, close bus & subway right in downtown, close to city's attractions. Check-in was quick, the room was clean but the bathroom floor was not mopped & it didn't have extra toilet paper rolls. We are a family of 3, stayed for 7 nights (From a Tuesday to a Tuesday), during those 7 nights our room was only cleaned once! On our second night, I asked a lady who was cleaning our floor when our room will be cleaned she said "Friday or Saturday". I asked the front desk for clean towels on Friday morning, they said our room will be cleaned on that day. When we came back the room was not cleaned, we didn't have clean towels and ran out of toilet paper. So we called front desk, they were surprised that our room was not cleaned & connected with housekeeping who claimed that "do not disturb sign" was at the door. We never leave that sign since we are always out of the room by 8am. I asked front desk for clean towels & a toilet paper roll. On Saturday morning, I called front desk to make sure the room was going to get cleaned, at this point we were out of everything. The room got cleaned on Saturday, but they didn't replace the empty tissue box. On Monday morning, I called front desk to ask for clean towels & was told that our room was going to get cleaned that day. In the evening upon our arrival, the room was not cleaned so called front desk who were confused with the cleaning schedule, I asked for clean towels, cups, & a toilet paper roll. I can't believe staying in a hotel room for 7 nights & it gets cleaned only once & had to go through the hassle of asking for towels & toilet paper! This room comes with breakfast, their breakfast hours are odd & have very limited food options. We skipped the breakfast after the second day! Whenever we travel the hotels can keep our bags free of charge until our flight, this hotel charged us $5 per bag, we had 3 carry on bags and my daughters' back bags, they even charged us for...
