I wanted this to be a 5 star stay, I really did but it seems like the Lasalle is still undergoing some growing pains as they get back in the saddle as a newer luxury hotel post-Covid. I checked in early on a Saturday morning prior to my partner arriving in town. The hotel was gracious and upgraded my room category one level per my Marriott status. They also offered a $10 credit in the bar and restaurant during the stay. I checked my bags as the room wasn't going to be ready for some time and set out to the city. I received a text message about 2 hours later stating my room was ready. I returned to the hotel where Carlos finished checking me in.
I arrived in my room on the 18th floor and began unpacking. I then found that the room was not very clean at all. There was lotion or some type of cream on the wardrobe handles, dust all over the mini bar, huge smears on the bar glass, and the wine glasses had finger prints on them. At that moment a young man knocked at the door and asked if I would be checking out soon. I explained that I just checked in. He said "oh well can I check the mini bar?" I let him in and he did whatever he needed to do to apparently verify the mini bar and let himself out. I thought it was in rather poor taste to disturb a new guest in their room to check a minibar. That should have been done well before the guest is told their room is ready.
I went down to the front desk and explained that I didn't think the room was quite clean enough and Carlos moved me to a different room. First the system messed it up though and put me right back in the same room so the process took almost 20 minutes as I went back and packed my stuff up. In the process of packing up, I accidentally left my partner's race supplements on the counter and didn't realize it until I had gotten to the new room. The new room was much cleaner and seemed like housekeeping was more attentive to the condition of the room. Carlos comped our breakfast for both days in the restaurant to make up for the dirty room and hassle.
As I was unpacking about 25 minutes after leaving the previous room, I realized I left the supplements. It was too late. Housekeeping had already returned to the previous room and thrown them out. Extremely disappointing and left me scrambling to go get more nutrition, which blew part of my afternoon doing so. When I approached the front desk about this, the young lady I spoke to was fairly blase' about the whole thing and so I asked where the nearest nutrition store was and she said "ask the concierge, he's right there." Not even 4 star service.... sorry. At minimum, I expected an apology since the whole room move cost me the supplements and an afternoon replacing them. That's Courtyard service, not Autograph.
Housekeeping as a whole is nightmare. Towel carts litter the hallways through the day and if you are carrying bags or luggage you have to dodge them. There was glitter and sand in the hallway near the carpeted area to the elevator all 3 days we were there. At one point I had to yell at a housekeeper inside a guest room to unblock the hallway as she had a dirty laundry cart completely blocking the hallway from side to side. Turndown was never done on day 2 and I had to request to have the room freshened while we were at the triathlon race my partner was participating in.
The restaurant was great food-wise but our server on Saturday Sunday was awful. She could not have been more disinterested. Our Sunday server was jus the opposite, a superstar. The elevators are quick and snappy, but need some work. There were missing ceiling tiles in one of them. We were never greeted once by the valet/doorman. I would have expected at a property of this caliber to have more gracious door staff.
Overall, I would totally stay here again but be much more tedious about room choice and inspection of the room until they get some years under their belt. I hope the housekeeping situation improves because its really holding back a great property with a few really...
Read moreThe decor, art, and ambiance screams luxury but the little details that truly makes a luxury hotel experience for the guest is missed. As a Silver Elite, which was not recognized upon check in, I wished I would’ve used points for this stay vs pay $600+ for one night. Not worth it unless it’s half the price per night. ||The Good: Was able to check in early, fragrance pumping through hotel vents, beautiful decor throughout hotel and in rooms, true blackout curtains, luxury bath room with marble, separate water closet, true dining table for 2, comfortable mattress, restaurant and bar on site and late night room service. Quiet rest. Same building as JW Marriott with access to their dining options as well as their spa.||The Bad: True Luxury details are missed. In Room Coffee had Dixie to go cups that you get from grocery store (same to go cups we have at home actually) and only 1 lid for 3 Dixie to go cups; no real China or glass for in-room coffee nor utensils for coffee. The “gold” handles to closet doors were tarnished peeling off - looked bad. The bathroom door was dirty with makeup on it - had hair under the counter and on the counter as well as water closet had hair on floor behind the door. It wasn’t cleaned well. One of our guest beds had hard clumps in the duvet all over that made it rough or hard which should be a no no and either thrown away as it is damaged or needs to be replaced. This shows no care in the actual bedding being placed on the beds. The room doesn’t have good ventilation it only cools a little bit and the fan for the AC is super loud. We ordered room service for 2 and the deliverer also asked if I had a pen to sign the check because he was new and forgot to bring a pen. He took the only room pen we had. After he left I noticed he only delivered with 1 glass of water, no salt / pepper, and no spoon for the soup. I called to have spoon delivered and the same guy who delivered the first time brought another set of utensils wrapped in napkin. I asked is a spoon in here he said yes so I said okay but after he left we opened them noticed just like the original set, there was not 1 spoon. So frustrating! Sister had to drink her soup wasn’t dealing with him or room service again. The room has 2 bases for phones but when we checked in - one phone was missing from a base and mini fridge looked bare with only 3 canned sodas and a few other items which we never used anything from the minibar. At 928 this morning as we were asleep we heard a knock on the door as I got out of bed to walk to the door, the door was opened and a staff apologized laughing! ||It is NOT luxury just great decor and design but the experience and attention to details is not that of a luxury hotel. The lobby bar area is much smaller than what I thought it would be from the pictures. The restaurant is also pretty small so it also confirms the boutique description. ||I’d skip next time if I am going to spend $600 plus a night. I hate I had high expectations and was let down. Beautiful design and decor though! Also superior vs deluxe rooms is important as one was 100+ more. I was told superior rooms face interior building walls ( like a courtyard) and the deluxe rooms face the exterior streets of the hotel. It really is irrelevant bc our deluxe room still faced another building’s windows and we couldn’t see much of the city at all! Was told decor, amenities, and the room itself is the same between the two categories. We peeked in the rooms that were being cleaned that were superior and view looked the same with both facing another building so...
Read moreThe Lasalle Hotel deserves more than five stars. This relatively new hotel is located in the shadow of the more well-known JW Marriott Chicago Loop and the W City Center. However, the Lasalle hotel occupies only the higher floors of its building so technically it casts a shadow on the nearby hotels, and rightfully so! The Lasalle Hotel is better. Value ads for Bonvoy members, the hotel décor, and the in-room accommodations are a step above. Also, I’ll share tips to have a great Chicago visit. My visit was a one-night leisure stay and I attended a ticketed event.
The value ads I received as a Bonvoy member blew me away. I expected to choose one of about three or four options usually available. Without asking, I was given a breakfast voucher with a $28 value, a $10 general food or beverage voucher, a chocolate welcome amenity delivered to my room shortly after check in, and an upgraded room. I did not take advantage of late check out, but I was reminded that it was an option.
The hotel décor was outstanding. The room corridors were very wide, properly lit, and well decorated. The window sills in the rooms had marble accents and the windows were new and freshly painted with an accent color. Marble and texture rich wall coverings were prevalent throughout the entire property. I wandered down the meeting room corridor and observed glass sculptures. The architecture of the building shines in the meeting rooms. The ceiling is angled with deep window openings shining into the rooms at a split angle between the walls and ceiling.
In addition to the Bonvoy value ads in my room, the amenity package included more complete bathroom amenities, a Lavazza espresso machine, fully stocked mini bar, and amazing water pressure and temperature controls in the shower. The TVs seemed larger than most hotel rooms and the Showtime channel is fully on-demand.
The hotel features a sky lobby and the main entrance is small compared to most hotels. You will immediately take the elevator up to the 21st floor. A street lobby security guard was always present. The street lobby is substantial and there are offices on the lower floors of the building. The live jazz in the lobby bar was highly entertaining. The lobby bar can be sectioned off to provide outstanding acoustics for the performers and listeners while at the same time controlling volume in the broader lobby and bar area to make conversation and drink ordering comfortable. The access to public transportation is outstanding; which is the case for most hotels in the loop. Take the Quincy stop off the orange line from Midway for a $3.00 and 25 minute ride. Allow yourself time on your visit to enjoy the amenities of the Lasalle Hotel and you will not be...
