See many people love this small cute store, but my experience was not so positive. I took my wedding ring of several decades ( that had a hand florentine cross hatched finish on a wide gold band ) in to this shop to get the diamond’s prongs rebuilt ( which had been done successfully there a few years before). While the florentine finish had become shinier over the years, it was still very visibly florentine and I loved it, reflecting the life that it had had. Stuart decided, without asking me, that while building up the prongs, he would totally polish the ring, removing the cross hatched hand florentine finish! I was shocked when his daughter pulled it out to give it to me. It didn’t look like my wedding ring any longer! Oh yes, it was beautiful, but was not MY ring because it was so shiny. And as I suspected, it subsequently started getting noticeable scratches on the wide band that look ugly. It looks like a scratched ring since the band is so wide.
His daughter was apologetic and offered to have him re-florentine the ring, but at that point I didn’t trust what it would look like. He could not return it to the worn, slightly shiny yet florentine finish that did keep daily wear or scratches from being seen.
A few years before when I was in the store he had been somewhat short with me when I asked a question. All of this together made me feel I couldn’t even try to explain what he had removed and trust that he could work on it.
I know many love the store and I have family who got wedding rings there. But I felt I should share my experience as it still bothers me now 3-4 years later. Make sure you are very specific about what you want, or don’t want, done. I have had jewelers ask if I wanted rings polished, and he don’t so, so I didn’t expect it. It made me so sad. I don’t know how I was to know to tell him not to polish it when I wasn’t asking for that.
I pause to give a lower review to a small business, and happy he made it through the pandemic, but wanted to let someone who might need to hear this know to be careful. I would have never expected he would polish out an obvious finish.
Thanks...
Read moreAbsolutely would not recommend. Dropped a ring off to be sized down. Stuart noticed some other work that could be done and went ahead and did it without my approval. At the same time, the ring was resized 1/4 size too small. When the bill was double what I was quoted, I was told “Nothing is on the house”. I could either pay double and come back for a “free” resizing to the size I requested or find another jeweler. I will find another jeweler and suggest everybody else...
