Powerhouse Gym — Local services in West Springfield

Exceptional facility! My wife and I have been members here since we moved to the area in 2000, right through the Gold's, Club Fitness and Powerhouse years. The same owner has continually improved all the cardio and resistance equipment with a nice mix of free weights, plate loaded and selectorized cable machines that are perfectly maintained. New top quality pieces coming every few months! A second workout area has just been opened up featuring a strength and conditioning area along with a lower body shaping section. Staff is friendly and receptive and everything is suprisingly clean for a gym. They sell name brand popular clothes, frozen meals and supplements at the front desk and they are all fairly priced along with memberships. Nice mix of members (who are mostly well behaved and courteous) from fitness oriented folks all the way up to a some hardcore bodybuilders and powerlifters, which is reflected in the variety of the equipment for different goals. In total, the place is quite large but it can get crowded on weekdays between 4 and 7 PM (like most gyms) so plan accordingly. I Highly recommend and appreciate this facility. The West Springfield location just isn't well thought out. I love that they have a wheelchair accessible shower. The showerhead is the hose style which would probably be beneficial if it wasn't located 2 inches from the ceiling where no one in a wheelchair can reach. The handicap shower also has a burnt out lightbulb. Another shower has a shower curtain that has been clearly been dirty for quite some time. It doesn't give me the impression the bathroom area is well cared for. I noticed signs for club fit stating that members will have to purchase powerhouse memberships instead. Is club fit a secret? As soon as you enter the doors, you are greeted with a sign about the sauna being open, cool, how about including where it's located. What about Sentra MMA. Again, signs with the name but no information, how to contact Senta. I'm assuming it's located in the gym somewhere, I did ask some questions to the staff who were very helpful but sheesh. Haven’t used this gym in a long time. Received a new debit card so my automatic payments weren’t going through. The gym called me trying to get a new form of payment, I said I’d pay my balance and cancel my membership. Power house gym specifically stated to me multiple times there was absolutely no way to cancel over the phone even after telling them I would not be able to make it in during gym hours due to my job and moving. They turned this “debt” over to collections after not paying them 10 dollars a month for 4 months. The collection agency made me pay 200 dollars over the phone and told me I could have called and cancelled with the corporate office anytime over the phone.
