TLDR: didnt fix my issue, told me my issue was that i bought a bad computer from them, became a huge security risk, and cost me a lot of time and money to undo the damages.
I brought my computer to Geek Squad for a straightforward hardware repairânothing more, nothing less. What I got back was a device that had been tampered with far beyond the scope of what was authorized. Programs like Malwarebytes were uninstalled, Google Chrome was reset to default (with my security and privacy settings window left open), and other changes were made that have left me seriously questioning the integrity of their team.
At no point was I informed that software settings would be touched, much less altered or removed. The fact that my privacy settings were accessed is deeply concerning. I didnât even provide my passwordâthough itâs possible my partner may haveâbut that only makes it worse if access was granted without clear, informed consent.
Now I have to pay my IT professional to do a full sweep of my computer just to ensure nothing malicious was installed, and to re-establish all of the custom configurations we had deliberately set prior to this visit. Thatâs time and money I shouldnât have to spend after a warranty-covered repair.
To top it off, they didnât have a charger compatible with my device on-site, so I had to make an extra trip home and backâjust so they could âtestâ the hardware. For a tech repair service, this kind of unpreparedness is unacceptable.
The employee who checked me out didnât inspire confidence either. He read everything verbatim from the screen in front of him and couldnât answer basic product questions (like what a docking station is). I get that not everyone can know everything, but for a tech support and service department, you expect a minimum level of product knowledge and professionalism.
All in all, I feel like I lost more than I gained by going to Geek Squad. If I had known this would cause more disruption to my system than the actual hardware issue itself, I would have gone elsewhere.
EDIT: it looks like my chrome browsing history was also cleared. Edit 2: my computer is still buzzing so it didn't even get fixed. Edit 3: just found a folder in my program data named "Geek Squad". So they've also unceonsensually installed programs. I've got through tax documents and medical information on my computer and I'm a little...
Read moreI normally don't leave reviews even when I'm upset, this makes me super mad. I had came in because I needed a reboot on my computer because I had tried to make upgrades to it and I had some problems reinstalling windows so I took it in. Now the computer I have isn't just any computer its a G17 Strix with a Ryzen 9 in it. Roughly $2,000 after taxes and everything Beautiful computer.đ When I dropped off my computer it had no scratches on it it was brand new other than the screen being a little dusty, and I had kept it in my Dslr Bag with my camera lenses ect the computer so I wasn't leaving the bag with them. The computer did not come with a sleeve for it, not really sure why.? However it doesn't take away from the fact that the team here neglected to take care of my property as of they just threw it in the back. Not just one scratch im talking multiple!!!!!đĄđ¤ Will is the one that I had on my case as far as i'm aware. And when I noticed there were new scratches that were on there all I received was a non shalant. "SORRY ABOUT THAT". No accommodation no anything. "Oh sorry if you would have bought it from best buy we could have replaced it or tried to exchange it for you". Are you 𤏠serious!?!? I've been shopping at best buy for a long time have spent thousands and thousands of dollars here. I hope that there is something that can be done about this because this is unacceptable!?!?!? BEST buy can start by giving me a full refund, and accommodation for the damaged done to my very expensive computer!?!!??? I'm very disappointed and this will absolutely be the last time I shop at best buy if nothing is done!!!!. I do not recommend Geek squad at least this particular location if you have expensive property. Take it somewhere where they will treat your stuff like its theirs if not 1000 times...
Read moreAt first, I was praising geek squad in Westminster. I had dropped my laptop off for service. It is only seven months new. I spent a lot of money on it, and it was failing rapidly first the touchpad buttons, then the touchpad, then the fingerprint reader and the charger. I looked into sending it directly to Samsung full exchange, wouldâve most likely happened. However, geek squad said they could send it out for me. They neglected to tell me that it would be sent out to a Best Buy geek squad center where they would do repairs and bill for labor and parts. I found out about this I was kind of irritated not to mention it came home with, a big dent in the bottom and a scratch on the side edge down to metal. I wish they wouldâve told me I bet Samsung wouldâve taken the computer found out that it needed to be opened and they most likely wouldâve decided to send me a refurbished computer full on with a cord and 100 W charger.
Now I have a dented and scratched up laptop. I spent $2000 on with a faulty charger.
I...
