I’ve attended the Urban Kids Consignment event twice as a paid early attendee, with tickets costing $40 for myself and a guest. As a first-time mom, I was excited about the prospect of finding great deals on essentials for my baby, especially with early access. The first time I went, I was alone since my husband, who’s an active-duty Marine, couldn’t join me. I arrived early but ended up parking far away, which meant I had to navigate a long trek through the mall to find the store. When I finally got there, I saw two lines—one for consignors and one for ticket holders like me. Consignors get to shop 15-30 minutes earlier, and while that may not seem like a lot of time, it was enough to leave me feeling discouraged. As a first-time mom, I don’t have anything to consign yet, so I was already at a disadvantage, which made me feel like I wasn’t really getting the early access I had paid for.

Once inside, I did manage to find some essentials, like a diaper genie, baby bath, toys, and bottles. However, the items I was really hoping to find—like baby monitors, high chairs, pack and plays, and baby gates—were still available, but the more affordable options and the ones I was most interested in had already been snagged by the consignors who got in first. It felt like I had driven 45 minutes and paid extra for an opportunity that didn’t fully materialize. I was anxious to get what I needed at a reasonable price, but it felt like I was left with fewer choices and higher-priced items.

What really soured the experience for me, though, was when I asked the owner, Heather, if I could use one of the big blue bags to help carry my purchases to the car. I had several large items and was struggling to manage them on my own. I even told her I’d bring the bag right back to minimize my trips, hoping she might understand and offer a bit of kindness. Her response was abrupt and dismissive: "Ya know what, no—we have a process and those bags need to stay here." I was taken aback by the lack of empathy in her tone. I understand the need for processes, but in that moment, it felt like I was just an inconvenience to her. With no help offered, I ended up making three exhausting trips to the car on my own. It was frustrating and left me feeling pretty let down.

Despite this, I decided to give the event another chance, hoping my first experience was just a fluke. Unfortunately, the second time felt even worse. It seemed like there were even more consignors with early access, and by the time I got in, many of the key items I was hoping to buy at a good price were already gone. I was particularly disappointed to find a Boppy pillow with black mold on it, and during my first visit, I had unknowingly bought felt toys that, when I got home, had mouse droppings in them. These quality issues only added to my growing frustration and made me question the value of attending these events.

I genuinely love the idea of a one-stop shop for all my baby needs, especially as a first-time mom navigating this journey. But after these experiences, I’m left feeling like this event might not be as mom-friendly as it could be. The focus seems to be more on profit than on supporting moms, particularly those of us who are just starting out and don’t have the advantage of consigning. I was really hoping for a more positive experience, but I think I’ll be looking for other consignment events in the future, where I might feel more valued and less like an...

I'm a business professor. Let me explain why this place is amazing and why I've already told my expecting friends about it as I drove home: Real deals these days generally don't exist, but this place ACTUALLY has REAL deals. Our modern, tech-connected economy is incredibly efficient. It's why "going out of business" sales are generally garbage and even swap meets are filled with imported junk. Put simply, the supply chain is so streamlined that the deals we used to get decades ago have gone extinct. So I was blown away to come across this local gem full of quality, brand-name, curated baby items. My only goal coming here was to hopefully find a bassinet that my wife and I liked when we had our first son. They had it. The exact one I was looking for. And another that was very similar. Both in great condition. I bought both for at least 50% off retail. Then I came across an Uppababy stroller with all the upgrades and attachments for a fraction of the price I would have paid new (and we never would have bought it new). I wasn't sure how to operate it, so one of their super helpful employees patiently walked me through how to attach the various parts, collapse it, unlock it, etc. She even went and found me some accessories I was planning on getting off Amazon while I finished shopping for a couple more items. Everyone that worked here, including the owner, Heather, was so nice, helpful, and accommodating. I can't emphasize it enough: places like this generally don't exist. You generally never get REAL deals on products you ACTUALLY were looking to buy... and yet this unicorn of a store provides that exact experience. If you're within driving distance of this and are in the market for baby items, you need to come here first before paying more than you need...

As a first-time seller, I was excited to participate in this sale and took responsibility for some miscommunications and missed emails that led to a rocky start. However, my experience upon arriving at the location was deeply disappointing.

From the moment I stepped in, I was met with dismissive comments like, “Do you not check your emails?” and “It’s all in the emails.” This was despite later discovering that I hadn’t even been added to the email list in question. Instead of being met with guidance or understanding, I encountered unkind and condescending attitudes from the check-in team, Heather and Rocio.

While I fully understood the need to correct issues—such as re-tagging items on cardstock or signing an agreement—I was disheartened by the way this was communicated. Attempts to clarify my consignor number were met with interruptions, rudeness, and even being told I had the the wrong name. I think I’d know my own name…Despite my repeated apologies for the missteps on my end, their tone remained cold and dismissive, ultimately leaving me feeling unwelcome.

When offered the choice to either comply or remove myself from the sale, I chose to not participate. I believe in supporting collaborative environments where people uplift each other rather than tear each other down. Unfortunately, based on both my experience and other reviews, this seems to be an ongoing...
