Let me start by saying this place has REALLY cool finds. The aesthetic and atmosphere are really amazing... until you check out the price tag... It's just really expensive to be honest. (But I guess that's subjective)
One of the main reasons I am leaving a review is because I saw some others mentioning their experiences with the owner and I wanted to chime in with my experience. My partner and I visited back in early 2021 when the store was located on Federal Ave. David was really nice and charismatic, but very flighty, sweaty and quick to the draw in every sense.
Our interaction was just a little off. It was back during the height of when the pandemic was scary, and he and his only other employee were maskless and running about the store yelling to each other and customers. Then it became obvious that the employee was very ill... cold/flu symptoms and a fever...
The first thing he said to me (unprovoked and unmasked) was that I didn't need to worry because he didn't have COVID. When I asked him how he knew it wasn't COVID, he said he just didn't think it was. All the while he is sweating bullets and hacking and wiping his nose on his sleeve without a mask on... It was a little off-putting...
Then the employee walked off to move some furniture for a client, and David, the owner, came up to me and started telling me (again, unprovoked and unmasked) all about this employee's former addiction problems and how the employee used to be homeless and how David, "saved him from himself." It was VERY uncomfortable especially considering the employee was being made to work while noticeably and physically ill, and David would often snap at him every now and again in the middle of conversation to tell the employee he was messing up in some way.
I ended up buying a broken chair (leg was completely broken off) and had to haggle it from $300 to $100. David ended up helping me make a quick fix and I left with the chair which I do love.
Overall, the experience was just weird and my partner and I still call it the "coke place" because everyone there just seemed a little... buzzed... let's leave it at that hahaha
If you want cool furniture, this is certainly the place to get it, but be prepared to spend a little more... and to have a potentially really awkward experience with the owner and...
Read moreI got two gorgeous chairs from David in June- he promised me two bolsters with it. He said he would throw them in as a comprise to me asking for a deal. Which I was greatly appreciative of. He worked with me for a month to find the perfect fabric- I paid in two payments as requested.
I have had many interactions with his employees as I have gone in after my purchase to look at other stuff- the conversation was always the same. “Hey is Mike here? “ “no “ ok I am waiting on bolsters “ “I will ask him, not sure which you are waiting for “
On a random Saturday night Mike texted me saying he has his missed my call- I didn’t not call him. I told him and asked about the bolsters- he wrote me paragraphs the next day saying I was rude and he decided he wasn’t going to give me them.
This was in January, 6 months later, told me he decided he wasn’t giving me the bolsters because I was rude to his employee- he couldn’t remember which just that I was a very very rude customer who wasn’t grateful for the work they had done.
He informed me multiple times of his side of the story. I had no clue of the interactions, however did say if that was the case I would have appreciated to know immediately so I could have understood instead of months later on a random mistaken call. I asked him to stop texting me that I no longer wanted the products and I was concerned he had my confused. He texted me again. Saying how rude I was. I asked him to stop contacting me, that I would be writing a review as he has amazing products but this wasn’t how to treat some one. Moments later He wrote another 2 paragraph explaining he wanted joy from his products and he would forget everything. I didn’t respond.
I am actually concerned to post this as he has my information and this is my personal account but it was so upsetting I would me remiss not to share.
To spare the details I will say Mike has incredible stuff but if you are working with him on a long term project I suggest...
Read moreMy husband and I have been furniture shopping for months looking for the right pieces and finally hit the jackpot today when we walked into Mid-Mod Mall. They have some incredible furniture in the store, but what really made the experience was working with the owners. David sat down with us while we described our style and what we want, looked through pictures of our home, and sketched up the layout so we could imagine what the space would look like. He walked us through the store, pointing out pieces that could work and offering super helpful interior design insight. We ended up buying four cool, comfortable sitting chairs, two beautiful coffee tables (both will have custom elements), a table and four chairs, a piece we'll use as an entertainment unit, and two uniquely-shaped lamps. David was able to connect us with someone who can reupholster two of the chairs and refinish some of our existing furniture. He's even going to deliver the pieces and walk through our home to help us with the next round of items we need. David and his wife Jimi were so lovely and really went above and beyond in helping us. Their passion and enthusiasm for what they do real shows. Thank...
